This is directed to all the newbies. Please take this to heart.
This time last year, I was a n00b. I was told I wouldn't be able to make it, I couldn't do it, porn is dead, etc. For me, it was, really. Nothing I did was right, and I couldn't market space heaters to Eskimos.
But persistance and intelligence pays off. It isn't about marketing stuff for everyone else. If that's what you're doing, you're an idiot who probably will never make enough money for a car payment on a 1980 Pinto.
Find what you're good at doing. If you're great at marketing, hell, become a marketing consultant on the side and help those who are complete dolts at marketing. If you're good at design, then become a designer.
For me it was text. I found that I can make good money doing something I love to do anyway. And is that not the dream of all people who have to work for a living? Make bank doing what you love.
Take lessons from the people on this board when you can find lessons to learn. Sometimes those lessons are hard to find, but other times, it's as simple as reading through the bullshit that gets tossed about here.
Patience is a virtue, but don't rely on it so much that you become pessimistic, procrastinatic, or just plain lazy. Don't use it as an excuse. You have to WORK in this biz.
And don't ever rely on luck. Rely on yourself. If you can't or won't do it, then trust me, it's not going to get done and you're going to be back at McDonald's flipping burgers.
