New toilet seat for cats

Anybody gonna get one?

Cat seat designer flushed with success

Pet owners fed up with cleaning litter trays have been given an alternative - a toilet seat for cats.

Kevin Rymer designed the seat which he hopes will wean cats away from the litter tray into the family bathroom.

The 39-year-old's design was recognised by a trade magazine yesterday which presented him with its 2003 Editor's Choice Award.

The Feline Evolution CatSeat encourages household cats to use a special device, which is mounted on a normal toilet.

Retractable shelves are textured to replace the feel of litter and at the press of a button by the human owner the mess is flushed away down the toilet.

Mr Rymer believes his invention will not only eliminate smelly cat litters, but also save pet owners the thousands of pounds they spend on cat litter during their animal's lifetime.

His company, Evolve Products, quotes vets and doctors who say there are no health risks associated with cats and humans using the same toilet.

The invention won the award from Pet Products News magazine and Mr Rymer was presented with the award at the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.

"The CatSeat was selected because it could revolutionise every American home with a cat," said Matt Keller, director of advertising for the magazine.

Mr Rymer said he had already sold some of the special cat toilet seats and only a handful had been returned. Customers reported it took two to three weeks to wean their cat from the litter tray to the toilet.

I've seen cats that were toilet trained before. The old method is to slowly move their litter box higher and higher until it is even with the toilet. Then put it on the toilet, then remove the box altogether and they go in the toilet where the box used to be. It takes several weeks but it can be done.

This new method would require no training and would mean no more litter box cleaning.

How much is my only question. I wont pay more then $20 for it.

Variations of this have been around for years. He's probably infringing a million patents with it.

My parents have 3 cats. I think I'll get one for them.

I would think it would be hard to train a cat to do that. Just use a litterbox?

I had a toilet trained cat, and I would LOVE to train my guys to do it now.. What's a link to where I can get one of these things, Rictor? :)

never cleaned a litter box have ya ... :1orglaugh

you keep seeing stories about cats learning to use a regular toilet, so this shouldn't be too much of a stretch for `em to use something like this.

Good luck with that. They didn't invent the phrase "like herding cats" for no reason. Cats are extremely hard to train. Plus the piss smell takes forever, if at all, to remove.

If they've been around enough years, the patents are probably expired.

Cats are actually quite easy to train if you know how. They ARE smarter than dogs after all.

I'm not sure how teaching a cat to use the toilet is dumber than having to clean a smelly litterbox once a week or whatever...

Flush, or haul around 10 pounds of smelly fucking litter. Choice is pretty obvious for me.

It's been working with MY cat..
