ibook vs notebook

I am thinking about picking up a laptop for myself before we go to vegas and I am wondering what would be good. I am thinking about either an Apple G4 ibook or a pc 2.4 ghz notebook. I was just browsing best buy and both seem comparible except in ghz, but the ibook is an PowerPC or something which I know nothing about. I have all PC's now but have wanted an apple since they started running a modified FreeBSD.

I mostly just do programming, email & graphics stuff on my computers, nothing fancy. I have things like Adobe Go Live, Photoshop & Trillian/ICQ. Just curious on your thoughts, I really want to get an Apple, but im wondering what a pain in the ass they are.

If you can you'd always be best off to get the mac and you won't regret it unless you're a 21 year old kid just looking to play video games.

Edited cause it's too damn early for me to think straight.

Sounds like you want the iBook and just need someone to agree with you to rationalize it. The iBook isnt a pain in the ass but it sounds you use a lot of windows apps.
Choose wisely, its a 14 day return policy.
good luck

just remember you can't install the windows versions of Photoshop and golive or any other windows app.. you will have to get the apple versions

I'd get a notebook instead, theres just soo many programs still not compatable with the mac yet especially the older programs.

My concerns are:
- PowerPC G4 processor 800MHz with Velocity Engine
- 128MB DDR SDRAM for multitasking power, expandable up to 640MB

I mean is this really sufficient in today's standards? Would a 2.4 ghz PC be faster than this? How much is the memory to expand to 512 or something?

You'll like it plenty, but you can get yourself a better deal if you order from the Apple store right now, as the Apple store has several refurbished models, hell you can probably pick up a refurbished PowerBook on there for the price of the new iBook at the store right now. Here's a link the special Apple store deals, and before you ask refurbished has the same warranty as new.
