If The Adult Biz Died Tomorrow, Could You Walk Away Happy?

I was thinking about this today...

If online porn died tomorrow and all your revenue streams were cut off. Would you walk away and be happy and say that the adult industry didn't owe you a thing? Or would you be depressed and pissed off that you didn't make as much as you possibly could and that you never caught a break?

Personally, if my revenues were cut off tomorrow, I would still have a house over my head and revenue streams coming in from my other properties. Sure I would not be making remotely as much as I am now, but I would also go as far to say I would not be mad at all. The adult biz gave me so many memorable experiences over the past 2 years. All the travelling, partying, meeting great people and making a bunch of loot.

What would you guys say? Would you walk away happy, with a smile on your face? Or be sad and resentful that the glory days were over.

I'd have enough money to last me a few years, and continue studying. Since academics/writing is my real goal anyway, I wouldn't really care... I'd have more spare time though :glugglug

xanx 12-30-2003 01:29 AM

I would walk away with a big smile :thumbsup

I wouldnt be Happy , walking away , with a smile on my face, because I enjoy it , but I wouldnt starve eighter:winkwink:

One door closes another one opens up.

Yeah it's cliche, but honestly that's exactly what I've experienced most of my adult life.

I'd be crying my eyes out. Been investing the last few months of my time into a new system for acquiring adult traffic which is portable to mainstream as well but with the current setup it was built for adult.

Would go back to shooting magazines. Just on a slightly smaller budget.

I enjoy my job but if the business ended tomorrow I have backup plans that I wouldn't mind taking a stab at.

KRL 12-30-2003 01:48 AM

Yes, diversified long long time ago.

I can be happy filthy rich or losing it all and being dirt poor. If you need money to make you happy you haven't learned what life is really all about yet.

Libertine 12-30-2003 01:48 AM

I think the important question here is if you are planning to spend the rest of your life in the porn business though... if you're not it matters a lot less than if you are (assuming you aren't planning on retiring any time soon).

If literature and philosophy wouldn't exist, the demise of the adult industry would probably devastate me :glugglug

But apart from the money, isn't your work - the way you spend much your time - one of the most important aspects of happiness?

Well...I have already walked away from it and all other business projects I had...everything is in mutual funds...so I now just amuse myself at my leisure.

OK, my favorite thing in life is anything techie. The Net is like heaven to me. I'm a research hound too, and the Net is the most incredible library system ever created.

So what would make me totally unhappy would be if the Net was gone and computers were gone. That would really bum me out completely.

Ditto... it's been a work in progress for a year and it's only just really ready to start truly rocking and rolling... and I would be pissed if I never got to see it in action.

On the other hand I am far more interested in technology than porn and there will be new and exciting things to do with the internet. :)

flashfire 12-30-2003 03:02 AM

No, I would have to find a regular job that I would probably hate

SomeCreep 12-30-2003 03:11 AM

No walking away happy or sad.

For me porn is life, no porn is death.

JDog 12-30-2003 03:13 AM

Well, honestly, I wouldn't walk away happy or pissed! I would just go to program for a mainstream company! Although I wouldn't get as much as I make in the Adult biz, but I would have to do what I would have to do!

We also have a property development company, which has grown and grown over the last ten or so years. Pretty stupid to have all you eggs in one basket.

Online adult is fun and very lucrative but if and when it goes its time to move on. Business is business.

There is a big wide world out there away from the computer desk and if you have had the breaks and been sensible enough to save enough to ensure a secure future for your family it would be the perfect time to go out and see it all. :2 cents:

polish_aristocrat 12-30-2003 04:27 AM

No shit, I have debts :(

strobi 12-30-2003 05:36 AM

I wouldn't break a sweat:thumbsup But indeed... adult years are memorable!

Eyes_Without_A_Face 12-30-2003 05:42 AM

I could make it very well from my day time job, but I would surely be pissed off. I earn more from porn than from software development.

no one in this world is really happy.

no one who has to work for a living is happy.

sure you can wear your smile like the rest of us, but we are all slaves.

JamesK 12-30-2003 11:03 AM

no. but I'm working on a mainstream back-up. everyone should do this.

But im always smiling!

and always cracking jokes, and I remain positive.

Still the world sucks, and no one is really happy.

youre a slave to the dollar like the rest of us man, that doesnt mean I dont have a positive outlook on life itself, having to get up and work does not make one happy.

at least not i said the californian.

Actually no I'm not...

I have next to no debt and my investment properties pay for a roof over my head and food on my table. Unless people stop needing homes to live in I think I should be ok.

sure man, if you stopped making ANY MONEY today, youd be a happy camper.

and of course you NEVEr have bills after your house is paid.

this is fuzzy logic.

you couldnt do anything you do now, which is what makes you happy, yet somewhow you think a home makes you happy?

doesnt really work that way, in this world, you WORK for your happiness man.

and thats what sucks about this place.

having a roof over your head is easy, that doesnt make someone happy, it keeps you out of the cold, but without a job youre still nothing but a bum hehehe

and without money you are poor and definitely not happy.

:winkwink:

I have the same deal in that I don't need to work to live BUT I enjoy working and I like figuring stuff out.

If porn goes away it is on to the next thing. But it would be very hard to not miss an income stream of this size.

TheLegacy 12-30-2003 11:31 AM

the adult biz has been good to me.. but if online porn died tomorrow then I would dust out my closet to find my 35 mm cam and start over from scratch

BlackCrayon 12-30-2003 11:32 AM

i wouldn't be happy and yeah i'd probably be pissed. i want to be doing this for a long time. i dread to think what i would have to do for a job if not for adult. probably some minimum wage hellhole working my ass off. probably should of gotten post secondary education...oh well! with any luck i'd find something similar to do, tho i can't think of any job like this one.

It would only cut off about half my revenue streams. It would hurt but my mainstream biz is strong.

Also, I have a college degree to fall back on if I ever have to go get a real job.

Honestly right now Fletch I am at one of my happiest times of my life. I have a good life which include a nice home, good friends and a great woman.

I am honestly not that caught up with money as I once was. Money honestly isn't the key to happiness as what I once thought it was. Take a lesson from KRL, he knows what he is talking about.
