Are the people in the industry changing?

It often seems to me that over the past 5 years, the general populace of the online adult industry has changed immensely.

At first, it was an interesting mix of ambitious business minds, individualist intellectuals, people who just didn't give a fuck, tech-geeks and mostly those that combined all of those things.

Now, it seems that unimaginative yuppies, lazy newbies devoid of any talent, low-level scammers and kids have become the majority.

Is it just me or is this really happening?

No, you are dead on. You don't see the great minds that you saw back in 96-97 on Netpond.

The only choice is for the industry to evolve. Years ago, so few people had a clue how to make the internet work and thus it was left to people in the know, or people driven enough to find someone in the know so that they'd either teach them, or work with/for them to make it go for them. Today, anyone with a computer for $499 from Dell and Frontpage think they're a webmaster.

MetaformX 12-30-2003 12:53 AM

unfortunatly, MetaformX is the only really great mind left in the world. Sad, but true

Pornwolf 12-30-2003 12:54 AM

Ooh ooh ooh, I wanna be in the know! Oooh oooh ooooooh!

I don't have a great mind but I love the whole thing.

Rictor 12-30-2003 12:57 AM

8 fucking years I've been in this business and I get dumber every year.

Mr.Fiction 12-30-2003 12:57 AM

Maybe it's not just the adult industry, but the world that is changing for the worse?

We went from Clinton to Bush. http://www.gofuckyourself.com/images/icons/frown2.gif

I will have to disagree.

it takes alot to keep ahead of everyone and even compete these days and survive int his industry now more than ever

shermo 12-30-2003 01:12 AM

Anytime you have a business that people think can be cashed in on quickly, people will flock, and the idiots will step forward. It's no different than any other business where people can start off on their own. There's less of a risk, and when a few bucks are made, the cockiness sets in.

The Gold Rush days are over. Yes there are numerically more "Idiots" around, me for one, but the movers and shakers are the ones with brains, skill and business sense to put it all together.

More and more we will see the experienced professional pronographers moving itno this area of the porn market and squeezing out a few.

I think the industry is simply evolving like everything else does :2 cents:

Some people doing very well like always and most sucking wind. Same old same old.

You can count the ultra sharp operators in this industry on two hands.

flashfire 12-30-2003 02:27 AM

I think it used to be soooo much easier that webmasters who actually make it now are working hard but there are more people trying to get rich quick

I am not sure for the international market, but the local markets like here in Germany are definetly changing.

SomeCreep 12-30-2003 02:43 AM

I see a lot of changes with TGP sites, especially with new TGPs. They all try and out do each other. People starting TGPs with 12 - 15 pics per gallery dont grow into "TheHun", "Shemp", or "WorldSex" anymore. I see new TGPs offering galleries with 50+ pictures per gallery and galleries with no advertisments just so that the surfer will be happy and come back for more. It seems to me, TGPs that offer free galleries better than what paysites offer must have poor sales conversions. But that doesnt matter, people still want to be able to say they have a 50K, 100K TGP, even if that means converting at 1:1000+ with the bulk of their sponsors.

Trax 12-30-2003 02:45 AM

i dont see any magnificant changes to be honest

polish_aristocrat 12-30-2003 04:37 AM

I have a great mind but I am so fucking lazy

Problems in germany are the new restrictions. For the surfer it is impossible to get a membership to a site he wants to get into quite fast. At first he have to proof that he is old enough, than he have to wait for this shitty new USB Dongle to verify, that he is old enough and allowed to enter this site.

The laws in germany killing the german biz.

Proud, that i am not in. :2 cents:
