Rent a car in USA!!

A few friends and I are planning on doing a few weeks in the US sometime during 2004 and I have som questions for you....

What is the standard age to rent a car in the US??

I heard something about 25 and that will not work for us :(

Is there any other laws I should think of??? insurance and other things???

/Patrik

You have to be 25... bottom line. Insurance and just about everything else can be purchased at the rental place.

Depends where you are... anything over 100MPH and you'll be paying out the ass.

21 to 25.
Most major tourist destinations have those place where you can rent a car if you're under 25 or have no credit card, however it will be high cash deposit and mandatory Insurance at around $15 a day.
Also, in some cities the rental age will be higher; such as New York.

You do not need to be 25 to rent car, unless there is different law for people out of country. You can rent at 18. But luxury cars at 25, so unless you HAVE to have luxury car, then it can be ok.

too much traffic, use the taxi.

axelcat 12-29-2003 06:56 PM

thats a stupid rule why do you have to be 25

I'm sorry but you're wrong. Show me ONE place in the USA that allows you to rent ANY car at the age of 18. Some places do allow you to rent at the MINIMUM of age 21, but you do have a heavy deposit and mandatory insurance.

I'm only 20 myself, so I have researched this..

Some places in some states are 21, but you won't get a nice car, you'll just get something basic...I had the same problem when I booked my car when I came over to Canada. I booked it with my agent in London, and when I got here, they told me I couldn't have the car my agent had booked. I was pissed and flipped out, eventually they gave me the car.

ServerMaze-Patrik 12-29-2003 07:15 PM

that might work:thumbsup

we are going to Orlando for the Paintball World Cup...a great game by the way :winkwink:

don't speed and you don't have to worry about the fine.

xanx 12-29-2003 07:22 PM

yeppers, insurance will be higher, so will the deposit. you can rent a car when you get off the plane so be sure to have a major credit card handy - that's a must

pornguy 12-30-2003 09:42 AM

I know that with Budget rent a car, you can be 21 but you will pay a higher price and you have to pay for the coverage for the car. And that is a daily non refundable fee.. But if you have not spent much time driving here and you are going to be in a major city, it will be worth it. If some ass hole hits the rental car while you have it, you dont have to worry about it...

Just get online with the rental companies. They have the rules listed..

Budget Dollar Avis Hertz

Those are the biggest on the east coast!

Get the Insurance! I learned the hard way as I'm paying for damage to a Ford Explorer from an accident over a year ago. :2 cents:
It wasn't my choice not to get the insurance, my old boss was too cheap... the company folded and I got left holding the bill even though I didn't even cause the accident. :321GFY

Vitasoy 12-30-2003 11:19 AM

some places it's 21 and over and you must have a credit card :) just look around./
