How did you get started, what was the first thing you did that made you money?

Actually I got started in the online industry in 1997 - made a "Teen Portal". That was when I was glowing with the idea of $7 CPM banner ads. We made the local paper and then the nanaimo paper and such about the deal we were going to close with Snowball media. It fell through when the boom hit (all we needed was to be in 6 months earlier.. heh)
I started working for a big .com in march 2000 doing everything from customer service, to sales and programming... the works. Did a lot of traffic management and stats analysis - as well as PPC advertising (aggrigating and selling)

Anyways - to make a long story short in June I discovered the adult industry as I was looking for some easy money. No idea how it worked but I made a site... made some fast cash - and decided to stick around. :)
TGP made me money.

I've seen a LOT of very cool ideas recently that are small big things. Changes in platforms and current ways of thinking. But nothing to be considered the next BIG thing.

One thing that I am looking forward to though is the crunch on QUALITY. I mean, the big thing for us would be to ditch those shit paysites - and make the name of this industry a LITTLE more reputable. I mean shit... most people STILL think adult sites = popup hell, and most of them are not anymore.

As far as a huge ALL industry changing event or system... I don't think there is anything there yet.
Although I must say - e.z.y.g.o has impressed me thus far...

With the credit card companys and the 3rd party processors making things tougher on us webmasters, do you see Visa getting out of adult processing altogether? If so what alternative billing solutions do you see coming to the forefront.

man visa wont get out of adult. just look at some of the coin some of these ppl are making, take 1% of that and they are still rich

they might have tougher restrictions. but other than that, credit cards should still be able to buy porn.

Hell no. Visa won't get out. There is some revenue in it still for them. They may get stricter in the future on CBs and such but they wont simply withdrawl.

And if they do... it will just be time for companies to band together and make their own CC company ;)

Tell me why Amex and PayPal got out of adult then? They were making good coin too. See what you don't realize is Visa doesn't need adult to survive, they make enough already. Why do you think they put a blanket over all of adult. Visa isn't treating this on a site by site basis.

IMO Visa introduced the 1% cb ratio knowing that the number of scam sites will out number the sites doing legit business and drive the overall cb ratio over 1%. This will give Visa the leverage to say that they tried to give us adult webmasters a chance and we couldn't do it.

I do realize they don't NEED us to survive. They may have harsh intentions... but to throw away business seems silly. They will always give a number of "fair chances" I agree. But will not ditch the niche without giving it fair chances. Why just throw away money? No company does this.

And paypal got out because it is risky. And a business that is JUST getting going doesnt need the headache of chargebacks and all this other nonsense that adult produces. Paypal has a hard enough time providing terrible customer support to the OTHER areas, let alone adult.

Do you think the AVS model is in fact a dying one? Internal AVS link list traffic has been a primary source of income for me for the past year an a half. Is it worth contunuing? Or would you recomend venturing off into other sectors, which is what I'm planning to do anyways.

Personally I do not think Visa/Mastercard will close out.
It would end up in courts. So the scenerio plays out as they will continue to deliver a harsh hand.

However the harsh hand does not come without reason.
