kobe beef steak?

hey anyone ever have some kobe beef steak, was it worth the high price?

Pornwolf 12-28-2003 02:04 PM

Depends on what it's in. I had a $41 Kobe hamburger recently that wasn't worth it.

I had on about 2 weeks ago, and it was'nt anything special, it was soft like a filet mignon, but it was really fatty!

I prefer filet mignon's, cost much less and taste much better.

$41?! did it come with a gold chain? :1orglaugh

Loryn 12-28-2003 02:13 PM

I haven't had on yet, but would love too. The airport to get to Kobe Japan is on a man made island. So I have always wanted to fly into that airport and have a kobe beek steak dinner. :thumbsup

Kobe beef if prepaired properly is amazing. It has a huge fat content, and something I could not eat all the time. Normally when I order it I share it as an apetizer amoung a few people. Too rich to just eat by yourself.

It is a tasty treat from time to time however.

The $41 dollar hamburger at Carl's Jr.

For some reason I thought this thread was about a Kobe Bryant hot beef injection.

Naah, but stuff like that you eat on a corporate expense account so no one really pays for overpriced restaurant food.

doornx 12-28-2003 02:25 PM

i'll have a rare kobe bryant burger with the medium fries please :Graucho

Hell Puppy 12-28-2003 04:16 PM

Kobe, prepared properly, is nothing like the typical american grilled steak. It is best served very very rare. If cooked to what we'd typically consider medium, you've basically messed up a great piece of beef.

Also do not expect a big ole slab of steak, the portions are going to be small. Treat it as an ultra exotic appetizer.

If you pay less than $100 for it, you're probably not getting a true representation of what kobe beef is all about. Because of the price my advice is try steak tar-tar in a good high end steak house as an appetizer and if you enjoy that, then consider kobe if you ever have the opportunity.

If you're the type of person who wants your beef cooked well done with all of the flavor cooked out of it and finds rare meat disgusting, you're not going to like kobe. It is a delicacy that only a true carnivore will enjoy.

I love kobe steak. But best to eat when you are 99% sure someone else is picking up the tab. Good Kobe at a nice restaurant will run you $15 an ounce.

Find yourself a meaningless rich husband who will fulfill all your whims. Then afterwards you can post it here on GFY so that we all can enjoy. :1orglaugh

No - sincerely - I love the idea of cows getting pampered, being feed good beer, etc. Nice for a change after this mad cow disease nightmare.

Vitasoy 12-28-2003 04:35 PM

hell ya that stuff is the shizznits :)

OY 12-28-2003 04:47 PM

I had a super kobe steak last Internext at the expense of Hooper and Wiseman - pretty much the best steak I have ever had, and to top it off, the company was the best.

:thumbsup

LadyMischief 12-28-2003 04:48 PM

FUCKING INCREDIBLE. If you love beef, you have to have kobe at least once.

AdultNex 12-28-2003 05:09 PM

You can only get the kosher kobe beef in some parts of Asia.

I traveled there before, had kobe there (where they actually give the cows beer, massage them, etc.)-- And I thought I was in heaven.

"You can buy a $41 burger in New York these days, at the Old Homestead Steakhouse on Ninth Avenue. The owner, Greg Sherry, calls it the Kobe-burger, because though the cows come from Oregon, they are raised according to the methods of cattle farmers in Kobe, Japan. But who knows what those methods are? Not Greg. 'I think it's because they don't force feed them,' he says, vaguely. 'Basically, they raise the cows slower, more carefully. But listen, we're not selling real Kobe beef here. At best, it's an American approximation. The real deal, from Japan, you can't even import that stuff and it would cost hundreds of dollars if you could. It's just amazing. And there's this whole legend around it, about beer and music, you know, but I really couldn't say what's true and what's not...' "

Very well marbled beef. I don't know if it's worth it, but it sure tasted good.

Just_Dave 12-28-2003 06:25 PM

it is worth trying it

Interesting about the whole mad cow hysteria. Mad cow only affects the brain and spinal chord of the animal, not its steak. So eat up!

Thats what i was thinking, kobe beef isn't exported so much anymore, since they make enough off it from people buying it there...The stuff you find in america is "kobe" but its like....hmm, how to compare, ok, its like having a dominican cohiba. I'd love to have real kobe beef, no joke, its on my top 10 things to do in life. Since i have to go on vacation to get it, well, thats just a bonus. :Graucho

FlyingIguana 12-28-2003 07:40 PM

there's a chick in colorado who didn't like kobe beef

Mr. Marks 01-03-2004 10:30 PM

I was a expecting a plethora of Kobe jokes. I guess 1 is better than none. LOL:1orglaugh
