underrated or little-known movies

Some off the top of my head that are worth checking out:

Frequency - Saw it on a plane a couple years ago and was suprised that is was good. Dennis Quaid in a sort of time travel thing but it works.

Strange Days - Much underrated sci/fi thriller with Ralph Finnes

Twin Falls Idaho - Strange, David Lynch style movie about conjoined twins that go to Twin Falls Idaho in hunt of their birth mother.

84 Charing Cross Road - old, very gentle but good film with Anthony Hopkins and Ann Banhahahahaha.

Anyone have some to add?

Donnie darko is pretty good.

Momento rocks too.

Sarah_Jayne 12-28-2003 01:37 PM

I keep trying to see Donnie Darko but always miss it. Memento is a fantastic film.

Lane 12-28-2003 01:41 PM

Memento is great, but its not little-known lol

LadyMischief 12-28-2003 01:41 PM

Anna And The King with Jodie Foster and Chow Yun Fat.

Caligula is a good one if you're into strange, sexual, dark, etc.

Lane 12-28-2003 01:42 PM

Glengarry Glen Ross

Mr.Soze 12-28-2003 01:42 PM

Strange Days definitely was underrated.

Resident Evil didn't get the accolades it deserved either.

The Cube was also a great movie.

DarkBob 12-28-2003 01:48 PM

Not many underrated/little-known movies in here...

Brazil would be a good one, although it isn't really little-known either. Frailty, as mentioned above, is fantastic. Boondock Saints is pretty good too.

basschick 12-28-2003 08:11 PM

one of my all time favorites is a documentary called Paris is Burning. it's a movie about black and latin drag queens in new york in the late 80s and includes interviews and all sorts of stuff. beautiful, honest and maybe a little depressing.

also good stuff, not TOO mainstream are:
Ken Russell's Whore
also his Crimes of Passion (with kathleen turner)
Barfly is good
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is kewl, and is a look at the "back side" of hamlet

Clerks isn't exactly out of the mainstream, but it's a great flick. i liked all the other movies with jay and silent bob except for Chasing Amy, which i wish i hadn't seen.

sarah, did you know there are comic books from view askew comics that feature jay and silent bob and include the info that happens between the movies? they're somewhat raunchier than the movies, but ya gotta love 'em.
