Should Lensman ban PAD?
 

PAD admits he is underage (17).

He appears, in my opinion, to be selling software that would directly violate AOL TOS and amount to spam.

He is not old enough to enter into a legal contract in any state as far as I know (I am not an attorney). He has attempted to sell domain names on the board.

I believe he puts the board at risk.

Not my board and not my call. I respectfully request Lensman to consider the suggestion. I am not one of the elite around here, so what do others think?

Pad - Your only real mistake was announcing your age on this board.

I would be willing to bet that 90% of us started looking at porn before we were 18, and MANY of us, myself included, probably started making porn sites before we were of age as well.

Not saying that makes it right, but the people on here who act shocked that he's 17 need to open their eyes and be realistic about the situation. This is a very widespread problem with no easy answer.

Banning Pad isn't going to do shit. At least check his ID, what if he's lying about his age? If we ban him for saying "I'm 17", isn't that the same as believing all the people who click on our "Yes I'm over 18" buttons? Either way, we are making rules that can be broken with the click of a button or the stroke of a key. Does he have a credit card? A checking account? .... this question is directly related to the underlying struggles that we are dealing with as an industry.

True, chances are there are none of us that didn't look at porn before we were over 18.

Right or wrong, our government to the best of my knowledge considers you of age at 18 in most states. Proof of that can be a credit card even though the credit card companies don't want that hot topic.

A major point is that someone underage cannot enter a legal agreement. That means selling anything can lead to problems.

Further, Pad appears to me to be selling spam software that is intended to circumvent security filtering. Our industry needs to adhere to higher standards if it is to continue. So especially in light of the age here, an example of right and wrong should be set.

Just because others may be scammers, spammers or looked at porn at an early age doesn?t mean that we should condone or encourage the activity. Pad?s disrespect for what is right and wrong is flagrant in my opinion. I doubt that simply banning him from here will change his activity. I do believe that his admitted age does put anyone that does business with him at risk. I also believe that there is a responsibility to not encourage illegal activity.

This is not up to me obviously. I think the discussion here and in other threads is needed.
