Follow KRLs Steps...

Since KRL is setting the price of MEN.com at 1.3 million

I went looking around for other top level domains...

Found woman.com for $250,000.00....seems like a bargin at less than 20% of men.com

Should recieve allot of type-in....and would be a oil well for money for along time :Graucho

Brad Xtremepay 12-24-2003 01:32 PM

That's a great domain as well with UNLIMITED potential.

Juicy D. Links 12-24-2003 01:45 PM

A domain is only as good as what you do with it :)

Naaah, if it were women.com maybe but I don't think many people are searching for the singular version. You would have to seriously create a niche and spend twice that to promote it to make it work and even then your chances are 50/50.

KRL 12-24-2003 07:07 PM

Women.com is the better domain. Hearst owns it.

The story just hit the wire services on Men.com. It'll be in the newspapers tomorrow and its online all over the place now.

KRL.....how many type in does men.com get daily?

Would you please give us a little insite to how you figure out a price for Men.com?

And what way are you planning on taking it...for revenue?

crockett 12-24-2003 09:14 PM

KRL man I'm telling you, yea can't go wrong with such a nice add in to your portfoilo as men4.com :thumbsup lol

We did some test runs on it earlier this year and it ran 5,000 to 10,000 type- ins per day.

It gets about 2/3rd gay traffic and 1/3rd straight male and female traffic.

On the tests we did we got the revs just from type-ins to about .10 cents per visitor which is above the norm.

So at $1.3 Mil it will yield a 14% ROI without doing any work on it which is also nice if you are looking at like a real estate deal which is how we did. That's works the price out to about 7 times earnings with just minimal work to boost the traffic.

We also figured a domain of that calibre is like a piece of prime property. The value is relatively safe at that price point and should only go up as the Net continues to develop. Even if the value dropped with another market fallout, it wouldn't be hard to up the income to restore it to at least what we paid for it.

So in terms of risk, there's not much when you buy a real quality domain or piece of real estate.

Our plans are to get the traffic into the mid 7 figures per day. At that point it will be generating healthy revenues and the price we paid will be a bargain.

My partner is very big in the music and entertainment industry so we're going to bring in some celebs featured as Man of the Month type of thing to get lots of media attention for it.

Also going to do calendars, retail products, and build out a lot of other domains off of that.

So even though its a lot of money to pay for a domain clearly, it will undoubtably be one of the finest investments I've ever made looking back a couple years from now.

I don't think Hearst will sell it at any price. That's Hearst as in the huge billion dollar Hearst publishing and media company.

The original guys that owned Women.com before iVillage became a division of Hearst used it in an IPO deal and raised $850 Million off it.

I don't know. He's never been one to sell before. The hardest part of the deal while we put it together for me was keeping it quiet. My worst fear was the word would get out and I'd get into a bidding war for it and the price would go through the roof.

I don't know if you know all the domains he's got, but he's got the best collection of adult and mainstream domains I've seen in one portfolio. Its quite mind boggling how he put that all together in just 6 years.

I always like having partners on major deals. On large deals especially it helps to partner with someone who can really add to the project. Like on this one my primary partners company is big in the entertainment and music biz so we can wrangle in celebs to do photo layouts for the site to generate publicity.

KRL, I have completely no idea what you do in adult ( what sites you run etc. ) but once you develop men.com, advertise it on TV etc, will you have both time and - most importantly - will it be a good publicity for you to stay in the adult business and...post on GFY :glugglug :Graucho

Phone Sex and mainstream 900 programs were the big ones, and the domain business, and some adult online stuff.

Its really much better to be humble and low key. I like having friends like that also, not the flashy kind driving around in Ferrari's and flaunting / wasting their money. There are too many people on this planet who don't have anything and I don't think its right to showoff when there are others who don't even have food everyday. I do a lot of charity stuff quietly also.

I enjoy leading a normal life. I like going to Wal-Mart and getting bargains just like everyone else, regular stuff like that. I pickup change on the ground when I see it. I do a lot of things where I could charge people for my time for free. And I'm very frugal and prudent. Of course I'll spend money on expensive stuff as well, but only if I get a good deal. I don't like wasting anything or overpaying.
