Intercepted "chatter" from suspected terrorist groups includes mentions of Virginia, but it is not clear if the conversations are about Rappahannock County, which is west of the District, or Tappahannock, a town southeast of D.C.

Federal authorities have notified police in both areas. Rescue workers in Rappahannock are being asked not to leave the county over the holiday.

Some experts theorize terrorists may want to strike a smaller town to make Americans feel they are not safe anywhere.

U.S. officials say there also seems to be interest in targeting holiday events that draw large crowds.

The Pentagon said Tuesday it is broadening air patrols throughout the country. Surface-to-air missiles have been deployed in Washington.

It is not safe any where, any more!

Sometimes I wonder if it's the terrorists causing the most fear, or our own government.

It just strikes me odd that we are afraid of people that live in caves. The most technological country in the world and we can not even find them let alone eliminate operatives that would hurt us...

One source on CNN said the other day that "this is the government's way of covering their asses, and also to show the people that they are doing something, nothing more. If something DOES happen, then they can say 'well we warned you'"

I actually heard some spokesperson say that as far as they know the mad cow scare is not terrorist related.

The US population is approaching 300,000,000.

A group as small as Al Quada is capable of an attack that could kill ~5,000 people at once. 5,000 is considered a HUGE attack.

If the rumors of stapping a bomb to a suicide bomber on foot are true they will at the most be able to kill 100 people at once?

I'm not saying anyone should walk around with their heads in their asses. I'm suggesting that even if you wanted to be a victim of a terrorist attack, statistically you wouldn't be!

The impact of the fear terrorists are able to cause is more damaging than any attack they could ever perform.
