Need Music Advice

Hello , my son has a band and they written their own songs which I think are pretty awesome for a young band. Do you have any advice on how they can get a record contract ? They will be cutting their demo CD probably sometime in January. It seems that these days you have to have connections to make it in the music industry. Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated.

"Getting a record contract" If I knew the secret I would not be here, id be on tour.

Advice:

-get a solid look for the band.
-get pics, video, get a website.
-gig everywhere and all the time.
-record an album , submit to radio
-build a fan base
-don't piss anyone off

If you fan base is more than 100 per show the record executives will find you.

There music is along the lines of Blink 182, The All American Rejects , Simple plan etc. I don't have a demo track yet. Will be recording their demo CD in Jan 2004

Thank you for your sound advice. I appreciate it very much. So you say that if they have a fan base of at least 100 the record excecutives will find them ? Right now I would say most of their HS classmates love their music esp the gals. They have done a few gigs here and there and have been paid pretty well considering their age.

record executives want to see results. tell them to do the indie thing for as long as possible.

Be a sell out, look and sound like the most popular band out there and kiss a lot of ass... that is the quickest way. :winkwink:

Thanks Guys for your help. Not to sounds stupid but, what does "indie thing" mean ?

Mikey_219Inc 12-23-2003 04:13 PM

probably make more money paying gigs than signing with a label and paying back the record company for the rest of their lives ... record companies are about as greedy as pharmaceuticals.

if they are good enough to get someones attention, get a good lawyer to look at the contract before they sell their lives away. my best way to describe indie (well, its short for "independent") ... apart from the mainstream ... stuff gets played a lot on college radio stations ... smaller record labels ... someone else might be able to elaborate

I an currently producing and directing a freestyle motocross film

We are always looking for good music to feature.

If you know anything about this genre...you will know the music influence you have mentioned are a perfect match for the consumer demographic that purchase the films

We have under contract some of the best talent on the planet

Mike "The God Father" Metzger
Kenny "The Cowboy"Bartram
Carey "Lucky"Hart
Doug "Punk Rock" Parsons
Ronnie "Kung Fu" Faisst

...they all have nick names i just discovered that.....

anyway the film just started production so we have not even thought of the music.....if the stuff is decent we can probably throw it on the DVD for some exposure

Our plans are to author the DVD so the audio tracks can be played in a conventional CD player

let me know...I'm around

please send me a demo to the following address

i think the first thing is to get some gigs lined up, and work from there.

Gigs 1st. Its improtant to establish a fan base, then press some promo CD's, interviews in ANY publication, and some g-marketing (stickers/shirts etc...). If your music is good, locking down your hometown should be easy. Major Lables are a headache these days, thats why sooo many people start their own lables. Signing to an Independant lable is not a bad idea. Most (that I know anyway) take care of their artists and respect their creativity, while handling proper marketing and promotion of their bands.
Some go on to majors, some help the Indy lable gain worldwide recognition, some stay local....

and thats my :2 cents:

BTW - I sale porny tunes. Check the new adult.com vids! :thumbsup

Got your addy and have saved it. I wonder if there is a way you can hear their songs before the demo ?
