cPanel has got a fairly serious bug which screws up all your domain settings when you try to change the domain pointer under certain conditions. When it happened to us our domain started to list the files and folders of other clients.

I've seen that happen with some big sites. You're looking at the homepage one moment and then you refresh and see their index level directory system.... Has this been fixed?

brizzad 12-23-2003 02:13 PM

both are kickass and user friendly

but plesk is a little more stable

No, this happened to us two days ago, actually, and I believe our host have the newest version installed. Luckily our host is kicking ass on the service front, and they got it straightened out fast (Wizzhosting).

Related, cPanel also appears to have a bug in that if you use a reserved folder name, the folder displays Apache folders instead of the correct one.

What about ensim basic? :2 cents:

Furious_Male 12-23-2003 02:32 PM

I prefer Cpanel but I havent used Plesk much with the exception of one host that I believe never had it set up right.

I'm unlucky enough to have a server with Ensim pro on it. Never again. Keep well clear of it.

My other stuff runs on freeBSD servers with webmin to take care of the basic functions. Much better if you have even half a clue about server management. If you don't then you should be looking for a completely managed solution anyway.

gornyhuy 12-23-2003 02:48 PM

plesk.

cPanel is starting to become a standard nowadays, there's a reason for it. Agreed, it has bugs but your host should be able to fix them quickly for you, plus cPanel release a new version almost every week. It's such a nice panel when everything is running fine. And their free support staff is quite helpful also (compared to Ensim support which charge $50 for a ticket).

It's also highly customizable, I've messed up so many Ensim panels while just installing 'unsupported' software, stay away from Ensim, it's a look but don't touch 'toy'. Hell it even says so not to touch anything when you log in as root, quite funny. But that's just my opinion.

Plesk is as solid as a rock. Users love cpanel but you sacrifice stability and occasionally security. Use both and decide.
