Has anyone done a BIG PPC campaign?

I've browsed through a few traffic stats of some sites that are listed highly on the top adult keywords of the PPC search engines.

My question is, how much of a budget should you expect to have if you're going to be listed on terms like "sex", "xxx", "porn" on the top PPC search engines (Oveture, etc.)?

I know that the traffic surge from high PPC placement is incredibly eye-boggling, but is it worth it?

PPC should be used to target myriad highly targetted, specifc keyphrases rather than general terms, the ROI is much better that way.

True, but I'm looking for more traffic.

PPC used to pay nicely, not no more :(

Overture makes it easy to check get a rough idea:
1) Check how many searches the terms you want got last month with their Search Term Suggestion Tool;
2) Check the current top bids on your terms with their Bid Checker Dealio;
3) Figure what your click-through rate is gonna be based on what rank you're willing to bid for (inexact science at best, but I guestimate 10% for #1, 5% for #2 and divide in half again for ranks below 2);
4) Revise, tweak and modify like a mutherfucker 'til you get a decent return.

Kinda-sorta-not-really. I agree with Rorshach -- PPC is best these days only on targeted terms. Only the Travelocity/Orbitz-types of the world can afford the $hundreds-of-thousands it takes to stay in the top 3 on highly-searched, non-specific search terms. :2 cents:

Depends. If the PPC is known for Newbies, go for it.

If this is your first PPC campaign, don't start with a generalized campaign. Do some kind of targeting to get the hang of it first, then try to generalize your market.
