It means that on an ever increasing scale large companies are creating experimental and untested chemicals, passing them through the fda, and marketing them to farmers.
These chemicals are more often than not detrimental to our health. Theses chemicals are made to tamper with anything from milk production in cows to the redness of a tomato. They are designed to increase the output of agricultural resources, increase the marketability of the goods produced, and to make the production of these goods easier or more efficitent.
But there are two (in addition to many) major problems.
1. These chemicals undergo extremely short research/testing periods, and are approved for human consumption. The FDA has approved some extremely bad things as "Safe for Human Consumption" in its history.
2. Proper labelling for genetically/chemically altered foods do not exist. In fact many companies are suing competitors who want to label their products as lacking these alterations. If the foods we eat, everything from vegetables to meat to milk were required to list the additives and tampering that was employed in the production of these goods...each label would be chock full of crap you'd never eat.
