Politics and Today's Adult Internet Biz.

Here at GFY, a lot of us seem to pride ourselves on not playing the political games. For the most part, I stay true to this form but occasionally there comes a time when even I feel the need to conform. When this happens, it is usually done by me biting my tongue and just keeping quiet.....As you all know...That's very rare. :glugglug

Anyway.....There is a good mix of people around here with varied opinions. There are some big name companies who are owned and operated by total ass kissers and then there are other big name companies who will stand proud while the rest of you lick their boots.

In your opinion.....As our business continues to evolve, what role will these political games play and do you see the power eventually shifting from the larger companies to more of the little guys?

Viva La Revolution?

AaronM 12-22-2003 12:10 PM

That figures....I post a serious intellectual thread and it gets halfway down the front page with no replies. Why do I get the feeling that if I started another thread saying "I just lit my cock on fire!" that it would grab more attention?

Maybe they all just thought you were trying to get the best industry related post of the day?

Personally, I think they big guys will stay the big guys. They have the money and resources to stay there. :2 cents:

Ass Kissing reminds me too much of work.

Exactly, as long as they are smart about their business and money.

No, it just never works that way.

That would be like the power shifting from Walmart back to the mom and pop stores.

The big guys are working on the principle that more webmasters=more joins=more sales=more emails=more sales.

A very expensive way of doing business and one which most of the time requires a certain amount of cheating -
Be it shaving by sales, shaving by traffic redirection or giving shit content etc.

Those guys working the theory that it costs far less to look after the member you have by giving the content you promised in the beginning, will win through -

Finally, somebody took the time to think and respond.

Thanks. :thumbsup

Yeah, that's what I thought. But everyone seems to automatically assume things like that around here. :)

I think the smaller companies are paying a lot more attention to member retention .. unfourtunatly all the porn perv's paying for this shit will never be able to tell the different between the big/little guy .. so they will always purchase what is in their face .. which will be the big guys =)

I think if recurring goes away the industry is going to have a shake up. On many levels:

1. Third party processors are going to have to be very competitive for your business. When there are no recurrings holding you to them.

2. The large comissions for joins will go down dramatically, I think most of that will go in house for the bigger companies.

3. Content is going to have to stay fresh and much more exclusive, if you want to keep that customer. On this area I think the smaller people can do better than the large companies.

Good point .. but the larger companies have A LOT MORE MONEY and a LOT more pull.. when it comes down to NEEDING to keep Fresh Content to stay on top .. the smarter big wig's will use some of that money they are sitting on and keep their shit the freshest .. i'd think

the dinosaurs will die, the well will dry up at somepoint. fresh content isnt all there is to it, you have to keep finding new ways of doing things and new ways to get your name out.

Ass kissers finish last. Most of them are already broke.

Only if they invest in the right areas - And currently they are not - They are paying XXX'$$$ per join and losing that member within seconds - Then they palm off that sale to 2-3-4 other pps. All of whome are losing that same member the same way - Till eventually that member is palmed off to a genuine content site where the owner understands the fetish he is dealing with and providing what that member is looking for .

This cashgrab chain will be broken by visa - Wouldn't it better if we broke it?

Believe me - Only 2 years ago the owner of one of the largest programmes asked me "What the fuck is Ling-gery?" He meant lingerie - Within weeks, he was getting 300 joins a day to his ling gery site! A couple of months ago we talked about this - He still didn't know the meaning of the word or even how to pronounce it.

But he sure knows how to sell on his cancels - How to cross sell his new members, and how to spam his ex-members - Retention is a word he probably has yet to learn!
