Documents detail Rumsfeld's Iraq visit in 1984
Reagan, Bush Sr. and Rumsfeld should all be on trial right beside Saddam.
'Publicly, the United States maintained neutrality during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, which began in 1980. Privately, however, the administrations of Reagan and George H.W. Bush sold military goods to Iraq, including poisonous chemicals and deadly biological agents, worked to stop the flow of weapons to Iran, and undertook discreet diplomatic initiatives, such as the two Rumsfeld trips to Baghdad, to improve relations with Hussein.' http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3754726/ |
the WMD pretence for going to war was always smoke and mirrors.

There were a lot of odd things going on during their years as president. Most of the people I know roll their eyes when Rummies name is mentioned too. :glugglug

Reagan is one of the top 3 worst Presidents of the 20th century.
That dumb motherfucker armed all kinds of dictators and terrorists in order to accomplish short term goals and enrich the Republican party's corporate buddies. We're still dealing with Reagan's fuckups 15 years later. Most notably, Saddam and Osama. |
Countries have no permant allies or friends, only interests.
Foreign relations is a very complex game. At the time of the Iraq/Iran war, Iran was a much larger threat then Saddam. It was also during the cold war, so the US would help out anyone ( including any dictator) who was "anti-communist" Times change, sometimes people/countries don't keep up. With the end of the cold war, a bi-polar system had evovled into a multi-polar system, focused on stopping WMDs and terrorism. Saddam did not keep up..... |
