Yep, the male is the one on the right in the first pic (you can see his pouch). There are actually 2 females and 1 male in the tank. And they have bred before, so maybe babies soon :)

I believe you are referring to a genetically engineered fish of Japanese origin. I read an article about these new types of glow fish a while back.

The petshop owner claims they have, no way to prove it for sure. They are captive bred seahorses not wild caught so it's actually quite common for them to breed in captivity. Captive bred seahorses also eat much much easier than wild caught. Wild caught are actually nearly impossible to get to eat and usually do not live long in captivity.

They were $30 each which is a low price. Usually CB seahorses go for more (closer to $50 or so).

A local petshop had genetically engineered zebra fish (freshwater speicies) which had a redish tint/glow to them. This was about 2 weeks ago and was the first I'd ever heard of any genetically engineered fish being for sale.

What do they eat? Do you need a salt water tank for them? They are pretty fucken cool. I need fish that require very little maintence.

Probably not. Too jerky maybe? Depends on the fish I suppose.

I'm not sure, I want to say 3-4 years or so, but don't quote me on it. I'll have to look that up.

Yes, I order livestock mail order all the time (from fish to crabs to corals). www.liveaquaria.com and www.marinedepotlive.com are two great places.

There are fish that glow naturally. But they're deep sea fish. As in, so deep that there is zero visibility. Pretty funky.

Spunky 12-19-2003 11:25 PM

Sea Horses are cool :glugglug

Yes as a matter of fact you can ship fish. It should be over night and packed very tightly. If you buy from a respectable dealer, you shouldn't have any problems.

I breed Angels and ship across the US :)

Beautiful seahorses GoGoBar

Seahorses are so cool, heard they may be endangered because they are overharvested for use in eastern medicine.

I found one tangled in seaweed high up on the beach tide line when looking for shells in Rocky Point, Mex.
