I get a few hundred 404's a day , but you shouldnt get that many 404's unless your pulling scams or you have lots of typo's ? I try to seperate my surfers a much as possible, once you have them back at a 404 page your are back at square 1 as far as figuring out what to push them. |

404 traffic should be the backbone of your marketing - You control this traffic and send it where you wish - A good 404 page (or site) will make you one hell of a bundle of cash -
You can trade it - You will have sign ups amongst it - You will have people looking for other adult and non adult related stuff in this traffic - And what is left - Those that say no to everything, you can sell - The more 404 traffic you create - The more cash you make - Simple as that |

I'll let you know |
You use a website to target your surfer properly if you want to make money. If they are on a 404 , the page has been moved for some reason. Thus now you have a whole whack of traffic that you know nothing about. SO what do you sell them ?. A better idea is to find out where the users are coming from and target each one seperatly, and maximize your potential. Why throw all your traffic to a site where the surfer is expecting asians ? better to send them to an asian oriented chain.
The only way you make big money off 404's is if your cheating tgp's. Other than that your wasting valuable traffic by herding them all ack together again. I like to have about 20 - 50 niche 404 blanks , that i can place when a file needs to be moved or to gain from a mistake. If i use one plain 404 for all the traffic the ratios are useless. Watch your stats :) |

404's paid for our company's very first server back in 97 or so. It was an old hosting company server, and all the IPs were getting traffic from where the client's sites used to be.
We learned early. :winkwink: 100free.com was the first host to get banned from the Hun for selling 404's. If you've ever had a freehost, you'll understand that you can come up with a lot of 404's at times. And there are a lot of things you can do with 40,000 404 hits a day. |

Mess up links - Steal traffic - ???
Nothing of a sort - And Smokey - You CAN control 404 traffic just as you can control any other traffic - On-Top got it right - There IS a lot you can do with several thousand 404's a day - Without doing anything to piss of people like the Hun etc. |

I would much rather know something about my surfer rather than just have them in a big pool of unknown's. :) 404's means your making a mistake :) Explain for me how you get *load of cash* off 404 traffic that you have ? Like where is the 404 traffic coming from ? ( real terms here ) Who sends you 404 traffic that doesnt care ? |

But once you have the 404's, either from your own mistake, hardware failure, client mistakes, or a dozen other things, you'll realize that they do offer a lot of possibilities. And once you've cashed in on those, it's hard to discount their value. So everybody in this conversation is correct...and both game plans, if played out completely, are profitable. :thumbsup But I do like me some 404's. :1orglaugh |
Exactly. I wasnt sure if you understood what i meant. If its someone else's mistake sure why not cash in on it. I do, but i watch them very close and even when someone makes a mistake i find a page for that traffic. I dont like any link hit 404 more than a hundred times without finding out where it came from :) and when i do i find a page for that traffic. :)

That's when you get to point 30-50,000 hits a day at fun projects, etc. Launch some sites, do some hit trades, make some cash, make some friends, etc. :thumbsup |
