aflex 12-19-2003 01:26 AM

was Frodo extremely gay in LOTR3?

dont get me wrong, Return of the King was a great movie.. but throughout the movie i kept telling myself how extremely gay Frodo seemed towards Sam.. he even kissed him at the end.. am i the only one to notice how much of a sissy he was with his personal connections with men throughout the movie?

Mr.Fiction 12-19-2003 01:30 AM

No.

stevecore 12-19-2003 01:31 AM

just saw it too..didnt see anything between those two but i leaned over to my girlfriend (who hasnt seen the first two) when merry and perry met back up after the battle and said "those two are gay lovers". know the part i'm talking about?

that movie was lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnngggg... coulda ended like 5 times but fuck yeah it was a perfect ending. much better than that ridiculous matrix revolutions.

KMR Stitch 12-19-2003 01:31 AM

YES! I'm glad someone else noticed...I kept waiting for them to make out. There was some homosexual sexual tension throughout the entire movie. Especially the part where Frodo woke in the hospital or whatever and all the hobbits and other guys started hopping on his bed and having the pillow fight.

JRR Tolkien was bisexual. Definitely shows in his writing. Besides, why should this upset you? Gay is normal. Why would the "gayness" of Frodo upset you... ? Unless you're repressed or something.

he was bi? lol im so out of the tolkien loop i guess. sheesh and i'm hardcore enough to have forced myself through the simirillion ;-)

aflex 12-19-2003 01:41 AM

i really think the director/producers realized this and put the part about Sam gettin married just to make it seem not so gay.. i mean guy friends go through shit all the time, but the kind of emotion that was shown was a bit extreme..

Gay is normal? mmmmmmm k

listen im not trying to debate whats normal and what isn't..

Frodo being gay doesn't upset me, by me posting what i did was an opinion that i felt i wasnt alone in noticing.

stevecore 12-19-2003 01:45 AM

anybody here also notice how sean astin got all of the major screen time at the end of each movie??

this is the books or did Peter Jackson just give it to him.

I was expecting them to start making out at a couple of points in the film too...

I especially know what the poster above was talking about in the Merry + Pippin battlefield scene.

aflex 12-19-2003 01:55 AM

zzgundamnzz 12-19-2003 02:21 AM

The last scene in the harbor: I keep feeling like Frodo was going to makeout with Sam. Anybody notice how close they were and how Frodo had his head tilted which looked like he was going to just go for it

Would the world end if Sam cupped Frodo's berries?

Defaintely some gay loving going on to some degree.

Mike-BP 12-19-2003 02:43 AM

YES!

Meta Ridley 12-19-2003 06:26 AM

There was so much time spent in the first book (as well as the movie), painting a very CLEAR picture of how the hobbits are a very different sort of people. A very close-knit, self-contained culture that's filled with love, laughter, good food, drink, and cheer. I think Tolkien tried very hard to portray the hobbits with a child-like innocence.

There's nothing gay about Sam & Frodo, or any of the hobbits. They're simply from a culture that expresses affection and/or appreciation for one another in a different way than us. (humans, in real-life, and the story)

You sound repressed.

Head 12-19-2003 06:49 AM

I 'm seeing the third one this weekend. But in the books i thought their friendship went a little to the gay side!

Never read it - any good??

reynold 12-19-2003 07:16 AM

Even if they WERE gay (new niche: micro bears in heat) so what? Would this debase the quality of the book or the movie?

Steve 12-19-2003 07:21 AM

The movie was overrated. get over it.

How long did it take to wrap this sumbitch up? 2-3 days? I've had root canals that didn't bother me as much as the end of this film.

beergood 12-19-2003 08:00 AM

The only thing that really pissed me off was that in the books Sauroman takes over the shire in the end and the gay hobbit tag team has to go stage a revolt and stop him. They cut that part of the book out for gay hobbit lgoodbye fest for 30 fucking minutes.

BURN IN HELL!!

Yes, and they're gay.

Ironhorse 12-19-2003 09:00 AM

Yeah seems there was an awful lot of time spent on gayness which would be ok except that there are essential parts missing, like what happened to Saruman? Also they took out the Mouth of Sauron completely, he was my favorite character in the last book.

Good movie, but a little bit too much mushy shit, Tolkien didn't do mushy and gay that much, this is all Jackson.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 12-19-2003 09:15 AM

I thought he was Gay in all three movies. Maybe because he really is gay in real life..doesnt bother me any..

They are not gay... You are just finding out how fucked up working in this industry is making you.

I see some movies now and see a young girl and an older man and nothing is going on, but I immediately think that he is a pedo. It is completely fucked up man. Our perceptions have been altered F O R E V E R!!!

badmunchkin 12-19-2003 10:48 AM

I don't think Frodo was gay - that's just the way the books portrayed hobbits, very close-knit & affectionate. Elijah Wood though, may be another story???
Very, Very Gay :1orglaugh

Sarah_Jayne 12-19-2003 03:32 PM

man life must suck having to get hung up on things like that. If you went through the adventure they did would you stop to think 'if I kiss this person in relief he might think I am gay'. God, must suck.

haha very true!

Pornwolf 12-19-2003 03:45 PM

I know plenty of gay guys that look more manly than the guy who plays Frodo. He looks like a real pussy in real life.

The good-byes only took about 5-10 minutes max and it was in the book too. The Scouring of the Shire would have added at least another hour to the story and made for a very strange coda ending.

Tolkien's hobbits were very open emotionally, innocent and cared deeply for each other. It was written in another time. Today people just leer and scream "Homos!" Sad.

jollyperv 12-19-2003 06:05 PM

Gandalf is a big homo in real life.

That is exactly what I said as I walked out the cinema about 2 hours ago. My arse was killing me!!! Sitting all that time.

Yep he is. I've met him. I was at a charity night to see one of my favourite comedians and I found out it was to do with gay shit. As I was walking out after the show Sir Ian McKellan was standing dressd all in white with a bucket asking for money for gay charities or some shit like that.

Dude, I read the books dozens of times, there is not anywhere as much gayness in the books as there was in the movies, not that there's anything wrong with it, but it was impossible not to notice.

Oh yeah? Well, I've read it dozens of times + 2 ! There's plenty of "gayness" (as you call it) in the books - especially between Frodo & Sam in ROTK - tender hand holding, open embraces, "Oh, my dear Frodo!"

Lexxx 12-21-2003 04:39 PM

Watched it yesterday... all the hobbits and their one-on-one gay lover affection scenes every 15 minutes did annoy me. Wtf.

magicmike 12-21-2003 05:57 PM

I don't know.

But I knew this wouldn't be a thread from 2001.
