Bruce Almighty..worth the rent?

Yes /No /Fuck offf/ Shut the hell up already ?

Pipecrew 12-18-2003 04:12 PM

Saw it in theatres, it was pretty gay, I was forced to go, The comedy is only funny to people in the 12 to 16 range, Lame humor basically.

Worse, He was funny in Pet Detective.

StuartD 12-18-2003 04:14 PM

Yep, worth watching... it actually was a well made movie.

Even people who hate Jim Carrey should still appreciate this movie. I dunno if it's worth much more than a rental though... I'd never buy it. But I think it is worth watching the one time.

NBDesign 12-18-2003 04:14 PM

if you like jim carey.. sure... it's worth a couple of bucks... anything more... no.

acctman 12-18-2003 04:17 PM

I have it on DVD, it's pretty good/funny

Why 12-18-2003 04:18 PM

i liked it. worth the $3 to rent it.

much better comedy then stupid pet detective. it also has a good point to it all. aside from just comedy.

Mr. Jim 12-18-2003 04:18 PM

IT IS LIAR LIAR ALL OVER AGAIN

DreamCumTrue 12-18-2003 04:19 PM

Yes :thumbsup

Head 12-18-2003 04:21 PM

It's Ok. Rent it.

NoCarrier 12-18-2003 04:33 PM

The tone turns from wacky to preachy with the speed of a lightning bolt from the heavens. The whole thing collapses into a pile of sentimental pudd. It starts in darkness, moves into safe ?Liar Liar?-type territory, and ends with boring Significance. The movie?s last 30-40 minutes are one long sermon, delivered to us when all we wanted was to laugh.

Jim Carrey has to get out of this "safe mode" in his future projects. This was very disappointing. Please choose another director.. Please..

bhutocracy 12-18-2003 04:34 PM

yes - definately, but then again i think starship troopers is worth the rent.. almost anything is, whatever gets left over you can always see on cable.

ps liar liar was good, it was cable guy that was lame.

Nikoleta 12-18-2003 04:34 PM

yes, it's ok

salo18 12-18-2003 04:35 PM

Yeah, its preatty good. :)

Yeah it got preachy, but for some reason especially in comedies I can block that out and ignore it without detracting too much unless it's particularly bad, I'm an atheist and the whole sentimental thing didn't particularly bother me that much.
The only time i can't stand sentimental bullshit is when it's purporting to be "real life" stuff, or nationalistic flagwaving crap.

exactly.... and I don't think the movie ever got too preachy. Infact, I thought it was rather impressive how they played the God angle and yet didn't get very religious with the whole thing at all.

The end just might bug you because it became more of a chick flick at the end than a comedy.... which believe it or not, a lot of good comedies do. The formula for a good comedy is antics and hijinx followed by the lead character learning a valuable lesson, or finally coming out on top, or winning what he was after to begin with.

I don't think most people found it preachy.... it's just a mix between a comedy and a chick flick. But only in that it gets kinda sappy towards the end.

Doesn't look too promising...

Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The (2005)
Six Million Dollar Man, The (2005) (announced)
Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) (pre-production)
Over the Hedge (2005) (filming) (voice)
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004) (filming)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Nasty D 12-18-2003 04:40 PM

Does Jenifer Aniston get naked?:glugglug

Or atleast a wet t-shirt.....

Cash 12-18-2003 04:40 PM

It's not worth renting it ... Get a better movie instead.

The problem is, it got preachy for 40 mins. This is bad for a comedy. It was very funny, then like a slap in the face, everything stops and it gets booooooooooring. Allright, I don't mind if the movie ends with some preachy boring stuff, but not for the last 40 mins of the movie. Even the bloopers during the credits didn't save the movie.

Too bad, it was very promising.

yeah i dig it, there was a fair about face into mushyness.. and of course it would have been great to be funnier.. but these days i take what i can get when it comes to comedy and parts of bruce almighty were knee slapping funny even if on the whole it wasn't so great, theres not that much good stuff out there - name the funniest movie of the last two years.
I missed the bloopers btw. silly me, they were the funniest part of liar liar.

Bulldog-Johnnie 12-18-2003 05:22 PM

Are you wanting to snuggle up with some some special on the couch this eveninh Juicy?

TheEnforcer 12-18-2003 05:22 PM

Not the greatest but not the worst either. Overall I'd say it is worth a rent.

tootie 12-18-2003 06:01 PM

I thought it was good. The whole movie was pretty good except the newscaster scene which I thought was fuckin' HILAREOUS! My mother, my husband and I all laughed until we had tears in our eyes. We LOVED that scene!

We actually bought it when it came out, and my mom just asked earlier if she could borrow it this weekend to watch it again. :)

evildick 12-18-2003 06:02 PM

I left the room before it was even over. He hasn't done anything funny since Me, Myself and Irene.

Trouble is that formula is overused. Most of my favourite comedies these days are the ones where no one learns any type of valuable lesson, like Seinfeld, Trailer Park Boys and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

HEARTBREAKER 12-18-2003 08:15 PM

actually, that movie was ok. :thumbsup
