Worst mistake in the adult webmaster biz?

What is the worst mistake you've made in business? Or what could be the biggest mistake to make?

Stud Money 12-18-2003 03:15 PM

biggest mistake to make...

not sleeping with Juicy in Vegas :Graucho

KRL 12-18-2003 03:17 PM

Getting in too early on certain niche trends, and not waiting for the dust to settle to see if they really have staying power first. And vice versa waiting too long sometimes.

Its a lot like surfing and trying to time the wave.

buddyjuf 12-18-2003 03:17 PM

same, not sleeping with juicy in vegas :(

brizzad 12-18-2003 03:18 PM

The worst mistake I made was not keeping my paysite up.

But due to personal reasons my model/girlfriend decided she was not comfortable doing adult.

Why was this is a mistake?? Here is why :winkwink:

On another note. How profitable are non nude sites?

Started a TGP... Too much time and effort if you're doing it solo.

Rictor 12-18-2003 05:30 PM

Biggest mistake I see people make...is trying to open a paysite as a newbie. You need to learn the business first. Just because you can afford to open a paysite, doesn't mean you should or that you will even come close to turning a profit.

nice post

pamphage 12-18-2003 05:36 PM

this is easy.

i did not capitalize on my successes. i didnt reinvest when i was doing well, instead just spent it. nor when i had good traffic flowing did i ever capitialize on it and turn it into great traffic.

basically i was happy with too little.

however the lesson is learned and this is changing.

Definitely a great post, but what would you suggest someone do other than a paysite? TGP?

i disagree, unless you mean a big overblown paysite with affiliate program, etc.

IMHO, small niche websites are some of the easiest to get up and running and make a little bit of profit.

I don't know if this is true though now with companies doing most of the work for you, it's possible to outsource everything and learn while still making a slim profit and then converting that knowledge into another site or perhaps a redesign of the existing site.

InsaneMidget 12-18-2003 07:23 PM

I cheated a good webmaster who gave me free hosting one year, I didn't realize what I was doing and almost made him lose his job, some of you might remember it, I know he does.

I'm actually glad it happened, learned a good lesson, still sorry it happened to him though. :(

Either way, I'm a solid, good, honest webmaster, and glad I fell that way instead of turning into a dirt bag.

besterman 12-18-2003 07:26 PM

biggest mistake was buying traffic in bulk instead of paying the extra money for better quality traffic.

Claude 12-18-2003 07:32 PM

Spending $200,000 on affiliate software programming, then scrapping the software. Buying a domain we never used for $10,000. Not starting a cam site over a year before VoyeurDorm came out. And most importantly... Not starting an affiliate program in 96 when we started.

Not reading more on the business when I first started out. I never even know webmaster forums existed. :1orglaugh

I was making great money the first year but didn't know how to expand it because of 0 knowledge to do with anything. Some custom programs etc would have made me millions in 2k1.
