Bush overruled on US terror law

Bush overruled on US terror law

US President George W Bush does not have the power to detain an American citizen seized on US soil as an "enemy combatant", a court has ruled.
The court decided 2-1 in favour of "dirty bomb" suspect Jose Padilla, who will now be released from military custody into civilian detention.

Mr Padilla was arrested May 2002 in Chicago and designated an enemy combatant in June the same year.

This meant he lost many of the rights normally granted to US citizens.

It proves what I have stated...multiple times...that the US constitution is sound...with its built in checks and balances. Laws are made...laws are challenged...and often the court knocks down the law...or portions there of...and this has happened with every Administration and Congress in my life time...so there is nothing new here with this Administration or with this Congress.

Though I often disagree with the thrust of your posts...you...unlike many others at least post with some intelligence behind your posts...and you at least do understand and accept some points that are made...unlike many others.

Poor guy. What's wrong with being like Saddam and having the authority to say who is a criminal? Ah those stupid US courts and constitution :)

Yeah and Bush has already shown he will try and ignore the courts... so lets wait and see what his response to the judge is before touting how the Constitution is being upheld.

by the way, i commend your open mind.

thank you.

theking 12-18-2003 06:46 PM

Those links confirm what I thought I knew...the Bush family does not have any companies in Iraq. Harken (GW was named to the board of directors) did have some business in Bahrain back in the late 80's but that had nothing to do with Iraq. In fact the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam...caused the Harkin stock to tank.

So try again...and make up some more BS.

theking 12-18-2003 10:28 PM

No more BS available tonight huh? Well think hard I am sure you can come up with something.

is it because the legal system is proving to work quite well in spite of your rhetoric?
