Foundry vs. Cisco?

Well, I know this is the wrong place to ask, but I figured since there is a few admins and hosting companies on this board, somebody would maybe give me their insight and opinions.

Looking to pickup a new midrange switch/router. Nothing heavy.

Just enough to support 2 Gbps.

Preferrably something that has at least 2 fixed/2 mini-GBIC's. I don't need any of insane features.

I was looking at this ...

Foundry (Extreme Networks) - Summit 200-24

http://www.extremenetworks.com/libra...t200_24_48.asp

I've had Cisco in the past and I wasn't floored with it's stability nor with IOS. It crashed a few times so I have no loyalty to them at all.

Everyone in IRC is a raving lunatic this morning so maybe somebody who thinks before they type would be nice.

Don't just post Cisco! Post why if you can, thanks :)

Try Vanilla Pepsi, much less of the nasty after taste.

For me I like the Foundry over cisco. Upgrades are easier and they don't take you down for 10 to 15 minutes like an upgrade on a cisco does. Also the reboot times are faster and the system management tools are better.

The foundry can also do load balancing which the cisco's have a real problem with.

my :2 cents:

Cisco does make a quality product to meet certain applications.

A router is only as good as the people administering it.

Just like servers some people like windows, some like red hat, others like freebsd ... they all do the job it just depends on the administrator administering them.

If you have any leads on Juniper gear, I'm in the market for a reasonably priced M5 with RE-333-256 or later revision routing engine and 2 gige PIC's (PE-1GE-SX).
