Space colonization your thoughts

As we move closer do you think there will be big push to be first to colonize space. I believe it's already a race right now. I believe it was japan who just sent some people in space and one of are sattellites crashed hmm...I think this is key to the future and all the worlds greater powers. What are your thoughts?

MattO 12-17-2003 11:21 PM

space would be a great place to make the undesirables move to

teenjump 12-17-2003 11:23 PM

It WILL happen, and it will help us survive. As earth destroys itself we will need to colonize other worlds. Which means exploring.

We will eventually send away teams to find new planets that our Hubbles and such have scoped out. We will find if they are suitable for living... and colonize.

This will happen.

I totatly agree as population grows and countries try to become the next world power I believe there will be a strong push for this. Intresting subject a friend and I have been discussing wish I had more reading material on the matter.

It is a race, whoever gets their first should have the right to start. Also, you have to remember that it is not only nations racing to colonise space, but also a number of corporations.

I personally can't wait, and I hope the oppurtunity is available within my life time to travel and stay in space for a reasonable price.

Me too irish... the topic fascinates me.

There may be some colonies in space but it will be a while before they do any major moving that way. It is very expensive to get up there and to stay up there. Plus it is incredibly hard on the body to be in a low or zero gravity situation.

This planet has LOTS of livable land. It is just really ugly ground, and needs water on it. For the near future, it will be much more economical to work towards lowering pollution, and work towards finding new sources of water to irrigate land. Pretty much any place will look nice if you dump enough water on it...

irishfury 12-17-2003 11:41 PM

I agree but the counry that does will gain alot of power. Plus a head start. There could be resources that are extremly untapped. My grandmother thought we never set foot on the moon in her life time. With as rampant as techonology is growing I wouldn't doubt it in the no so distant future. Intresting point about corperations no law in space? Makes you wonder huh.

I think it is most likely that there will be some major mining going on in the asteroid belts in the next 100 years, but I am guessing it will be mostly done by semi-autonomous robots..

Just because some African warlord poisons a food shipment doesn't mean the rest of the world should live in the stone age.

GonePhishing 12-18-2003 05:33 AM

It's possible if any planets prove to have a atmosphere and set of resources that will allow for it. Though, none of the planets in our solar system would make for a good place to live.

Perhaps over time as our exploration moves out of our solar system it would be possible.
