Does owning a domain give you the right to lie?

The domain will likely go down in value in a short about of time. And owning a domain gives you no right to lie.

Hi Rick
Many apologies, I only offered the below because I fancied some extra Christmas cash.
Domain sellers routinely lie through their teeth, but I'm sure you'll understand why - in the light of recent events! - I think the domain is worth a great deal more...:-)

hmmm.
If you can put up 1000 dollars now, then I guess 6 x 300 dollar and then 1 x 200 dollar monthly installments until the rest is settled would be OK

This is odd, he negotiated from $1000 to $3600 and then decides to not bother? Seems like he just wasted both your time, if he wasn't interested in selling it to begin with, just say it.

Huh? You never offered what he was asking. He never accepted what you were offering.

You misunderstood, I think, as the quoting of messages is a little confusing. Seller started asking $3000, and Rick offered $1000. Seller said no, then Rick offered $3600 if he could spread it out over 12 months. Seller counteroffered something that would give him $1000 immediately and the rest spread out, to have some money for Christmas. It looks like maybe Rick waited from the 14th or 15th until the 17th to respond to the last offer, and by then the seller's perception of the value has changed.

no he did lie and he was smug about it. tho you are right Rick never offered him what he wanted - but he smugly admits that he was playing Rick along.

Domain squatter types are asswipes and it's very frustrating trying to deal with them - i have offered a few of them money that was far more than what a domain is worth and will ever be worth but they seem to be in some dream world thinking someday some billionaire or big corporation is going to desperately need their nothing special domain.

Ok, I'm missing it, what was the lie, specifically?

I would guess that if Rick had promptly accepted any of the seller's offers, the deal could have been closed. Maybe still could, but it's not like the seller said "this offer is good indefinitely."

Have you been hiding in a cave with Osama for the last 9 months?

nofx 12-17-2003 02:35 PM

domain just has faces of saddam on it....

Michael O 12-17-2003 02:38 PM

The domains isnīt worth much.
Its worth something now but if a site is developed now in 3 months its to late everyone would have forgotten about tikrit

Rick Latona 12-17-2003 03:04 PM

It's not a huge deal because it was kind of small time. I'm just pissed that he handled it that way. I'm way to busy to get jerked around.

That's not entirely true. It is worth money now for type-in value but it'll still be the name of a city with over 100,000 people for many more years to come.

Location domains are worth a lot. Some more than others of course. Hell, Iraq.com is worth 6 digits.

Pipecrew 12-17-2003 03:07 PM

haha, I've seriously been studying for exams for the last MONTH and I live in Canada..

Rick Latona 12-17-2003 03:56 PM

The seller contacted me and apologized and all is well.
