For Christmas dinner?

4-6 people what prices?

Tanker 12-16-2003 02:49 PM

MattO 12-16-2003 02:50 PM

I'd just walk down to the pond and grab one.

People eat goose?
Canadian geese are mad sick tasting apparently.

biglou 12-16-2003 02:51 PM

Well, this being the USA, I would first have to find a market or butcher that sells goose... We yanks don't eat it, unless we shoot it ourselves.

For you Canadians, the best place to buy them is the St Lawrence market on Front St, or the kensington Market. But I find St Lawrence better for prices and quality. I havent priced them this yr yet , but that is where we are going to buy ours for Xmas :thumbsup

Haha, Goose, that's funny. There are tons of wild geese in Chicago but people don't eat them. They're more like 'decor' animals. Although I suppose it's nice to know if you were REALLY hungry, you could get one with a stone, but then you'd end up eating pork and beans anyway at the local police station =)

Most people here eat turkey, not as fat as goose.

Well that would be wrong, me being a yank and all and not owning a gun ;)

Yeah you just have to make sure they dont sit in their own juices while cooking them.

The juices make an excellent gravy too if you prepare them right :thumbsup

You can find geese to eat in Chinatown along with duck and other such items. Seems like a full goose already cooked and chopped is about $9.00

myjah 12-16-2003 03:08 PM

SweetT 12-16-2003 03:19 PM

I've seen geese in the local stores every now and then. Usually Christmas and Easter.

Aren't Canadian Geese illegal to shoot now? Seems like one or another kinds of Geese are. They got a guy here a few years ago for intentionally ramming thru a group of them crossing the road from one pond to another... charged him with some sort of protected animal thing.
