Racist thread of the day: Why don't black people tip?

At the risk of being politically incorrect and stereotyping, I thought I'd throw this question out there to see if anyone has an answer. It's a real problem and there are hard statistics to back it up.

I'm sure the problem isn't as big at nice restaurants, but at places like Pizza Hut where the waitresses make $2 an hour and depend on tips...I hear complaints all the time. My wife has been a waitress and a delivery person and she says that 95% of the time, blacks don't tip at all.

Actually, most of my friends are waiters/waitresses at charlie browns and applebees. I hear it all the time about how people of "color" don't tip. And if they do its 10% or less.

Fuck industry standard tipping. If they want a 20% tip, charge 20% more for the food.

Yep. They make less than minimum wage. Wait tables and bring you refills. You've never eaten in at a pizza place and been waited on? Sounds like you've lived a sheltered life.

Same with pizza delivery guys. They get minimum wage plus a small gas allowance per delivery. Basically, when you add in the wear and tear on your car, you only come out ahead when you add in tips.

Yah, when your name is in a computer database somewhere, it's good to overtip. The same people deliver every time, so if fast delivery is important to you, you don't want them fighting over not wanting to take the delivery to your house.

Also, if you get a coupon or gift certificate for a free meal, that doesn't include the tip for the poor person waiting on you or bringing you your delivery.

Yeah, of course I tip delivery people and waiters/waitresses, bartenders, etc. To me, tipping is for one of two things: 1) a reward for the excellent service they have given, or 2) a "down payment" for excellent service next time. But I'm sure as hell not going to start giving out my hard earned money for taking 30 seconds to ring up my order. If that was the case, I'd be tipping the video store clerk, the lady who rings up my groceries, they guy selling me tickets at the movie theater... You gotta draw the line somewhere. Just because a person makes minimum wage does not mean I'm going to give them money. If they want a tip from me, they need to earn it.

I usually give the delivery guy $5. Whenever we order a pizza, guy on the phone will say 45 minutes. Always get it in less than 30 and it's nice and hot.

I love this stupid discussion. The people I know waiting tables make more than 95% of this board, shitty tips and all. It's just another group of uneducated fuckers crying about how they are worth more.

I can't think of anyone I know that waited tables that made less than $15 an hour overall and they served just as many black people as white. Who fucking cares.

It depends where.. In Florida, they don't make minimum wage, they make about $2.50-$3.50/hour plus tips. Here in Cali, they make minimum wage ($6.75/hour) plus tips... so I do tip less here than I would in Florida.

I've only eaten at those Pizza Hut Express (?) places that are combined with other fast food places like Taco Bell or KFC or something. Maybe that's the difference. There sure weren't any waitresses there.

I was thinking the same thing but I was gonna look up stats before I mentioned it and just got lazy. Either way, waiters and waitresses make damn good money for what they do, unskilled fucking light labor.

Yes, I grew up in Hickville. They only had Express joints there. You order your food at the counter, they give you your pizza, you fill your own pop and throw away your own trash when you're done. Until today I didn't even know there was such a thing as waitresses at Pizza Hut. You learn something new every day.

from experience,

white people generally either tip normal or over tip.

black people generally either tip normal or don't tip. Same thing goes for elderly of all races.

Yes, I now live in California. But because of my poor experiences in the past with the less-than-pleasing pizza I've eaten there, I've had no desire to go back. Believe me, eating at a "real" Pizza Hut once I got out into the big scary world was not at the top of my priority list.

I started my working life delivering food for a chinese restaurant when I was twelve. I have either made my living for the most part based on commision/tips money earned for services rendered--either sales commision or tips.

I beleive the comment that hospitality industry employees are uneducated is an ignorant statement. Thats like saying stockbrokers are thieves who only dispense advice that benefits thier own pockets. How many people doyou know that waited tables thru school.

I grew up in NYC where we tipping is standrd for everybody I do tip the deli clerk, the bag boy, the doorman anyone who goes out of the way to do thier job better its a way to reward good behaivor!

Black people deffinetly tip less so fuckin what I cannot fix it but thru discussion with my black friends some tip well more do not

I have asked and never got a straight answer and I have tried NFL players who tip like shit cant explain it.

Now here is a rub Black men tip in titty bars well so I think it's a cultural thing about value of service,, saying something like bringing my food isnt as much value to me as looking at some quality ass.

Okay. Im a big tipper, but only if the service was good. I had a situation last Sunday where me and a young lady went to Dennys and were seated at 3.50pm, the waitress didnt even introduce herself or ask us what we wanted to drink until 4.20! We didnt get our food until 4.50pm. Everyone who was seated after us was already gone.....Now, you think I should tip some bullshit like that? Fuck no! In fact, we got the meal for free because I complained to the manager, and I STILL left $2 on the goddamn table. Plain and simple, give shitty service - you shouldnt even expect your %15.

True story-
A buddy of mine - who is very liberal- owns a successful restaurant. About 5 years ago, he started getting a lot of black customers. They didn't tip and so my friends waitresses all started to quit. Plus they were very loud and rude, so a lot of the
white customers - his regulars - stopped coming in. It almost put him out of business.
His solution was to raise the prices on all the items that the black
people were buying - primarily the chicken dishes - and it worked.
They stopped coming in and the good tipping white customers
started coming back.
This guy is the least racist person I have ever met and he hated to do this but it was a matter of survival.

see that's weird, when I was in Washington I asked for a "pop" and they didn't know what I was talking about...here in Canada we call it pop...I thought it was an american thing to call it soda...

and it's not cultural, but black ppl generally don't tip, it's a cheap thing, we used to increase the price of our booze on hip hop night just so that we were guaranteed a tip...but the one's who do usually tip well...

there are plenty of white ppl that don't tip...cheap fuckers!!!

i delivered pizza when i was 18, and we were open till 3am, big college town ... this one fuck, at the VERY end of our delivery area used to call and order small cheese at 2:59am, and it was like 4.99, he would hold out his hand for the penny.

another driver told the manager "im gonna shit on his pizza" ... the manager said "dont even joke like that - just deliver the fucking thing or dont come into work tomorrow"

45 min later we're cleaning up waiting for driver to get back, phone rings "yo man, some fool dun shit on my pizza!" ... managers face went ghost white ...

it was the driver calling, fucking with him ...

ok maybe you had to be there

I even tip some taco shops for carry-out food. Once I find a good spot I usually keep returning so I do them a nice favor, they do me a nice favor and I get added service for a dollar.
