Posted from another thread:

Jon is funny - after they all just got done telling Sandra she got to where she is by being lazy and riding on the coattails of others, Jon comes up and asks her if she thought she represented Puerto Ricans well. Haha , what a dick.

Frickin A

I knew I shouldn't come to the board until 10PM PST. I thought maybe people would be thoughtful toward people in the later timezones and not spoil it.

Don't say I didn't have to look in the thread. If anyone's been watching the title tells all.

At least she's from Ft Lewis...just 15 minutes from me.

Meta Ridley 12-14-2003 08:45 PM

haha - yeah way to go poster.

Sorry, but I disagree with this. The show in NOT flawed, and even one of the smaller weaker girls can win out over the big strong bruisers. The show is geared to incorporate not only physical stamina but it plays on human nature, greed, deception, forsight and cunning. Sandra simply flew in under the radar while the others were all concerned about eliminating others. A huge part of the 'game' is to play people off of each other in a way that keeps the focus off of yourself... Sandra did that the best of all of them. Period.

Look at that Osten guy. Built like an NFL wide-receiver, strong as an ox, yet his mental strength just wasn't there.... he wimped out and went crawling home. Then look at 3 out of the 8 women who played the game, stuck it out and made it to the final four. Buddy, talk to some of the people who have been on the show, ask them how hard the experience was on them physically and mentally... they ALL say the same thing.

Flawed? I don't think so. Your thinking is flawed though.

Bansheelinks 12-15-2003 04:36 PM

Its flawed........

Did you watch the show and listen? When ppl get threatened by those that win the challenges, be it big Rupert or little Darrah, they are banded up and booted out by those that CANNOT win challenges, be they mental or physical.

It has nothing to do with size alone......it has to do with those that are successful being tossed out by those that ARE NOT successful......

why? because in the end, they want to be up against others that are mediocre in the challenges, mediocre like they are.....

in that sense, of course its ok for a contestant to think this way..........thats how you win the game, by booting out the big threats.

and thats the flaw...........its slanted towards rewarding mediocrity & punishing excellence. Thus you have Rupert being booted because he was so dominating, and Darrah, for winning 3 challenges in a row. All the contestants said Darrah had to go because of it.

CDSmith 12-15-2003 04:55 PM

That's part of the game, it's not a flaw. If you aren't smart enough to know when to "be successful" and when to shut your mouth and lay low, you lose. Dude, that's the way the game goes..... and frankly, when you have a group of people and only one can ultimately endure, your skills of deception will always come into play. Sorry, again I have to say, there is no flaw. It's just part of the game.

If Rupert or Darrah where able to keep winning immunity their successfulness would have been rewarded, btw. They weren't, and they weren't able to see how the others were plotting against them, so they lost. Hey, if you can't cut it, you're out. That's the way it goes. Calling the game flawed because someone isn't able to play the game is just stupid.

LOL........you just made my point for me CD Smith......

"if you aren't smart enough to know when to be successful....."

And as if someone is going to win EVERY immunity challenge. But if you win most, and dominate, you're history. I know what the show is about, CD, and I know its smarter to even throw challenges if you have a good alliance and are seen as a threat.

BUT THATS MY POINT! The show rewards the mediocre. Why do you think we have had so many coattail riders as of late? Or people who couldn't catch fish or light a fire if their lives depended on it. Even Sandra admitted this.

They have another show based on the same premise as Survivor, yet there isn't any dependancy on survival skills and toughness. Its called Big Brother and is played in a house. There its all about human politics and such. Survivor has become just like it......the one that wins the human politics wins. It has nothing to do with surviving on an island, or even bettering your tribemates in competitions anymore, as one cannot win every immunity challenge.

The game is slanted in favor of mediocrity.

Sandra, like it or not, was mediocre in many respects. She could hardly swim, won ZERO challenges, had poor interpersonal skills.

She herself admitted they went after others because there were "bigger fish to fry". She was entertaining and I liked her, but lets be honest, she was a mediocre player.
