<img src=http://www.popsci.com/popsci/images/bown/2003/home_entertainment/homeent_mitsubishi_450x450.jpg>

60" widescreen REAR PROJECTION - 10" thick

uses curved mirrors to achieve it's size.

when I was shopping for a big screen - the rear projection tvs (the better ones) were much clearer and brighter than plasma ones.

they will start to hit stores next year...

What TV did you end up with? I'm in the market for a 65"

Furious_Male 12-13-2003 11:47 PM

That is nice. Looks like the way to go if your going to do it right.

Some of the research Ive been doing on the Plasma TVs says that they are built to only last 5 or so years. Not sure how true that is.

DoubleD 12-13-2003 11:48 PM

Nice..heard a bit about this, first pic i've seen...nice.

SoundMan 12-13-2003 11:48 PM

Damn, looks fucking badass.

I got a Mitsubishi 65" right now. Weighs a ton though, going to suck when I move in in 5 months.

I am happy with my set up, only problem is that it costs $500.00 to replace the DLP bulb after 2000 hrs:(

GTS Mark 12-13-2003 11:52 PM

I'm currently shopping for a nice tv, I have been looking at Plasma's and at some LCD rear projections. I just can't seem to make up my mind.

That tv sure looks nice Sleazy!

The future of TV's is OLED - Organic Light Emitting Diodes.

They say it's going to be the cheapest to manufacture, significantly brighter than anything else, faster pixel cycling, thinner, lighter, more energy efficient, and better resolution. It's really badass - they laminate layers of emulsions on top of each other and each pixel is a really small LED. The screens will come in sheets and get mounted in a matrix type mounting. The only problem I see is that the LED's may not have a great lifespen (especially the blue ones) and you can't fix it, it has to be completely replaced. I don't know the latest on the technology but it is the future. I forget who told me this at the NAB show but someone said a bigscreen will be under a grand.

Nardimus 12-14-2003 01:48 AM

Huh? That doesn't sound right, isn't the half-life of a typical LED about 25 years?

(That is, in 25 years of cumulative operation it will be outputting half the level of light as when it was new...)

BradShaw 12-14-2003 10:24 AM

Projection is good, if you have a dark room. Looking for a new TV for my downstairs, which is very bright. Think I am going to go with a dlp.

LadyMischief 12-14-2003 10:31 AM

We've had a rear projection for quite a while, and even though it's a few years old, honestly I'm only JUST NOW starting to see tv's come out that have pictures/color that can even touch it.

IKE 12-14-2003 12:45 PM

I have a mitsubishi diamong 65 inch rear projection. I love it! i LOOKED AT THE pIONEER eLITE but it seemed a little washed a=out in all but a dark room. I know this isn't supposed to be the case but it seemed that way.

Rictor 12-14-2003 01:41 PM

But what do I do with all that extra space? It just gives my wife an excuse to buy more ugly chick stuff.
