i've had to replace engines, clutches, suspension, brakes, computers, almost everything

but the repair costs are never more than the parts costs for me, cause if the vehicle isnt under warranty then I do the work myself. Takes a little time but saves some money. Plus I like tinkering with cars.

Hahaha. You got a big ass garage!!! Plus you always have a new car.. so its always under warranty..

I have a garage stuffed with a 1970 cadillac and all its fenders and such, from doing a complete tear down, restore and rebuild..

I wish I had more space in my garage :(

I prefer to buy a new car then look under the hood :)
such a messy place, and most of it can't be fixed by a computer which is a BIG probelm :thumbsup

Don't have any horror stories, only had the car about a year...

Raven 12-13-2003 02:02 PM

Well, since you asked...

We were going to the super stupendous, mostly heterosexual Seattle party last night.

My car got a flat.

It was horrible AND it was raining.

We had to come home and miss the party.

I did not get to drink.

THAT'S a horror story.

fuzebox 12-13-2003 04:31 PM

Well, on my current car...

The turbo seals were leaking a lot of oil which was being burned out the exhaust... Up to a point where the car was bruning 1 litre every week (~ 1 quart). My engine doesn't like being ran even a little low on oil, so I ended up spinning a bearing and getting a nasty rod knock.

No big deal, order used engine from Japan, turn up the boost a bit more.

Keep driving for months and months, stop caring about oil changes as this engine is toast anyway, keep adding small mods here and there, racing car, etc... Now running even more boost, car should be making around 90hp more than stock (320 versus 230), and one night on a good highway run something breaks... BANG, rattlerattlerattle, yay.

Spend the next month preparing the new engine I had bought and dropping it in, with a few more mods even.

Couple of months later blow the head gasket. And that's where I am now. This week I'll be pulling the head, which on my car is almost as involved as pulling the whole engine. :feels-hot

$600 for a new ignition and installation.. 91 acura legend coupe

now i might need new struts & ball bearings

PenisFace 12-13-2003 05:13 PM

I dont have to worry about getting burned by shops, I do all the work myself. Including all the engine internals. Nothing feels better than saving 900 dollars in labour costs.

PenisFace 12-13-2003 05:15 PM

Did I mention I'm in the process of building a 10 second honda civic? :thumbsup

JFPdude 12-13-2003 05:20 PM

Had my wifes van all loaded up ready to move from Pa to NC had the trailer loaded and everything when the new head job we just had done on the motor the week before started dumping antifreeze all over the place.

Added an extra day to the already streched move and a lot more costs.

I just sent the title to the garage that has the van now and told them where they could stick it.

:feels-hot

My car is still under warranty, so most stuff is covered.

I know a lot of people that keep putting money into used cars every month...in the long run...it's cheaper to just buy or lease something new.

Wrong.

Over the last 4 years I have spent an average of $79.00 a month on my vehicles.

Most months they need nothing except an oil change.

myjah 12-13-2003 05:25 PM

everytime i made a left turn my car would cut off - the car didnt care if i was sitting in the middle of the road or not. had to have the tank and lines flushed out. so i guess it wasnt really the car's fault - our gas must be really shitty.

BlackCrayon 12-13-2003 05:53 PM

my car is over 20 years old so it does need repairs now and again, and no its not a piece of shit lol. only driven 2 winters, mint interior, near mint exterior, needs a paint job. anyhow this past week i dished out 400 bucks to have the heater core, window crank, and rad hoses replaced. seems a bit much for that but my guy charges 77 bucks an hour labour. hes good, but expensive.

Raven 12-13-2003 05:57 PM

Ok..so having a flat tire on the way to a party isn't a horror story.

How about the engine dropping onto the Wissahickon Drive in Philly, during rush hour in a piece of shit Dodge Dart?

Or the hood of a Suburu coming off its hinges onto the windshield on the East River Drive....

Amputate Your Head 12-13-2003 06:26 PM

buy a new fucking car and quit whining about your bucket of shit breaking down.

ldinternet 12-13-2003 06:27 PM

I left it parked on the road for ONE night...

Some jealous piece of hater shit tried to snap my mirror off. It didn't come off, but was broken. New mirror, $110.

They also KEYED it from front to back. I'd love to have caught em at it. I just wish I had stayed up that night.

I'm taking it for a service next week, and not looking forward to that bill.

By the way, I've got Aaron at MY house now...:)

GTS Mark 12-13-2003 06:33 PM

I had to replace one of the back speakers in my Audi. Cost me $220 for one speaker and $50 to install it. God damn you Audi and your expensive Bose systems!!

When we had our jeep CJ7, about 1 year after the warranty ended, the ac, and the transmission went at the same time.

So my wife put on a short skirt and tight top and heels and took it to the dealer... It was fixed for free. She just smiles and shaked her tits and thats it...
