Photoshop elements. help

rebooted my computer recently and reinstalled photoshop elements - downloaded it (with licence - all legal)

now every time I save a thumbnail for about 10K and it says it's saving it at 10K it ends up saving the thumb at 25k+ when I check the file???

any one else experienced this - I'm going nuts - gone though the program with a fine toothed comb and can't figgure it out.

weird

can anyone help?

Just off the top of my head are you saving it with a thumbnail icon preview or no?

What exactly are you doing trying to compress image size?

Try this...
Launch PS and as soon as youve clicked, hold down shift, control, and alt keys together.
You should then get a box saying delete preferences... Say yes.
Will it work on elements ? Dunno... Only got PhotoShop
Will it solve your problem ? Dunno... But I find that fixes a multitude of sins...
Will it do any harm ? Nope...
So I'd give it a try :)

Why don't you just choose more compression when you save the file?

Yep, looks like a few compression to me. There is a setting in "save as" panel, can be set from 1 to 10. 10 is best quality and largest size, 1 is worst quality and smallest size. When you set it once, it's used by default when you use plain "save".

Sleazy.

you don't have to delete the prefs just adjust them.
Uncheck the save with preview box and try Save as as said above and play with the jpg image quality settings. When you set it, it becomes the default.
I can recommend another great tool, the Boxtop proJPEG plugin, see http://www.boxtopsoft.com .
