would never build a site running on a mssql db myself - looking on behalf of a client - just too lazy to convert it to mysql

You guys are idiots.

MSSQL is an Enterprise Database Server.

You people have no earthly idea what MSSQL can do.

It makes MYSQL look like childs play.

boldy 12-10-2003 03:01 PM

WEll Mysql was build for speed and thats why it lacks some sql features. And its free. I still think its the best free db out there. It can handle a lot if you know how to tune it. This is the freetgpsubmitter.com server with Innodb (transactions) :

[root@host101 root]# mysqladmin status -p

Just to add...

Verizon Communications and Lucent Technologies both use MSSQL heavly. They have Microsoft SQL Server Databases THOUSANDS of Gigabytes in size that process MILLIONS of transactions a day.

How many of you can even afford the $5000.00 to purchase the Standard Edition or $20,000.00 for the Enterprise Edition?

If any of you had any idea what you were talking about...you would not be blowing off MSSQL as a toy.

You're talking out your ass.

I really agree with you that the MSSQL server is a superior system for handling serious amounts of data but for a small adult site using it for authorization, content management etc, it would be total overkill...

Kenneth K 12-11-2003 07:48 AM

... and btw, still looking for a place to host the DB ;)
