Laptop for video editing? possible?

I need a new laptop and would like to be able to do some video editing on it.

Any suggestions?

the extent of my "video editing" is all in windows movie maker.. heh.. and my laptop runs fine with it. but, i would have thought a desktop would be ideal for that really, as laptop memory is extremely expensive..

if you have the money tho, there will be the machine :D

I do all my video editing on my laptop that I got a year ago.....

p4 2.8ghz
1gig ram
128mb video card
60gb hd

my desktop is a p4 1.5 so I use that for general work & storage

Most laptops cap out at 512MB You need more memory if you're running huge edit jobs.

Not true.

I have a Dell 8100 with 512mb of ram and until I dropped it then flooded it...It worked perfectly fine for editing full length videos.

I'm sure it's possible. But to do it quickly and efficiently at 512MB. Hmmm I beg to differ.

You can add 2gb of ram to this lappie. It has 3.2ghz of hyperthreading capable processing power. Much faster than any Mac powerbook you will be able to buy for at least a year and a half.

This is more powerful but I think it's limited to half the ram.

Helpful info, much thanks.

I kinda need to be able to go pick it up, so I'm looking at this Gateway 350x which is in stock at the local gateway store:

Man, a Mac sure is tempting...but I think I'm too invested in PC stuff.
