Battlestar Galactica

Awesome. Period.

J-Reel 12-08-2003 11:28 PM

Yeah, Apollo Rocks!

HeadPimp 12-08-2003 11:50 PM

So far it is pretty good, but like any multiple part series, I will have to see the following episodes before passing judgement.

SciFi is pretty decent at turning out a good product, unlike the networks that put all the money/talent/action into the first episode of a show, then tank the rest of the installments.

hottoddy 12-09-2003 12:26 AM

Part I just finished on the West Coast. All in all, it wasn't as bad as feared. Yes, there were some notable gripes, but I thought it stood strong as its own work. I thought the battle sequences felt very "Wing Commander." It was interesting to see the Cylon attack on the colonies play out in greater detail. I thought they also did a good job merging the 40 year-old conflict and antiquated equipment into the current story line. The series is half-way done, yet the initial cylon attack isn't even over. That doesn't leave much time. It will probably end with them breaking free and heading toward Earth. Is there a regular series on the horizon?

Centurion 12-09-2003 12:40 AM

I too thought this was pretty good for the "Sci Fi Channel" original Sci Fi Movie.

Now..I'm a tad confused. I read somewhere else on the board that this is a mini-series that ends tomorrow? Or is this a series that is going to run on Sci Fi for a while like the old series did back in the 70s?

hottoddy 12-09-2003 12:45 AM

As of now, there are just two 2-hour parts. Tonight was the first half.

Dildozer 12-09-2003 12:54 AM

THis is up in the air but i knew Bryon Singer(director X-men 1+2, Usual Suspects) and he wants to do a remake! I never heard anything about it in a long time. Richard Hach (Apollo) wrote some book i never read them

Tonight? What time and What channel. I thought you guys are talking about the old series.

Jamdin 12-09-2003 08:30 AM

I enjoyed the first part of Battlestar Galactica and cannot wait to see the second part tonight. They do pay homage to the original series. There was a drawing of the original Cylon on paper and there was a suit of cylon armor in the gift shop. Also, the robot-looking Cylons kept the moving eye-dot and that one ship had it as well.

I did not have any problems with Boomer and Starbuck being women. In fact, I enjoyed both characters more as women than as men (hey, I have a hard spot for tough women). Boomer was really cool but Starbuck needs to lay off the cigars. The smoke is really ruining her looks :Graucho

It was also cool to note that the Secretary of Education was the most calm person on that flight until Apollo arrived. I also enjoyed the relationship between Apollo and his father.

I give the first part :thumbsup :thumbsup

TheEnforcer 12-09-2003 09:27 AM

Gotta say I enjoyed the 1st part quite a bit. Hopefully they can follow through with a excellent second part as well.

:thumbsup

webair 12-09-2003 09:52 AM

Broda 12-09-2003 11:03 AM

Any of you guys tape the first episode and divx it?

Oliver Klozov 12-09-2003 01:39 PM

I have to say I was impressed much better than I thought it would be.

I had my worries

Starbuck a girl?
Boomer a girl?

Only thing that seems odd to me was all the paper they kept passing around looks like the future won't be that paperless as we thought :winkwink:

I'll keep watching.....

Wilma (Erin Gray) gave me one of my first chubbies. Of course they had her running around in skin tight outfits all the time. :Graucho

The original Battlestar Galactica also had some hotties - a young Jane Seymour comes to mind.

SiMpLe 12-09-2003 02:07 PM

For the first time in a year my machine was shut off last night and it will be tonight too - 2 words - Bad Ass :thumbsup

I just want to remember the old one, I used to think those guys were so hot way back then ;)

theharvman 12-09-2003 02:13 PM

One of my favorite shows by far!

HeadPimp 12-09-2003 02:24 PM

I did like this first episode, but I have to say that it almost feels like they are forcing the girls are pilots thing. Maybe it is just me. I think the only thing I was dissapointed with was the CGI cylons at the very beginning. They may have meant for them to look a bit stiff, but to me it was a bit detracting.

There are still some technical things I don't like, but they did a pretty good job of covering their bases there. I would be interested to find out what an explosion would actually sound like in space though.

The finale aired tonight. While there were a lot of little things to pick on, but it was a good adaptation overall. The pacing of Ep. 2 was a little slower with all the Baltar/No. 6 stuff, and I'm not sure I liked the "Boomer" twist at the end. The final battle was excellent. Let's hope for a series to follow (although they'll probably lose Olmos).

Finale? I believe there are 3 more episodes this week.

Are we talking about the old or a new series?

Nope. It was 4 hours total - broken into two different nights. There is talk of a series though, but that's a ways off. The whole thing reruns this weekend.

Lose Olmos? Why..what's he doing these days? Doesn't seem like much..and he seems to REALLY like this flick (in interviews with him), so..I could see him comming back.

I think how the overall ratings were might give an idea as to whether or not a series would come out of it. One problem: They dropped Farscape because it was too expensive to produce on a weekly basis. I think they face the same problem here and even more so if they made BG a weekly series.

And as I said in another thread..REALLY liked the soundtrack!:thumbsup

TDF 12-10-2003 02:17 AM

great ending...why is boomer azn tho? no love for the brothas!

I just see major concessions if they make a series. Like you said, the SciFi network is not a source of huge funds. Since Olmos was probably the "marquee" actor, I figured he might not carry over.

I agree on the soundtrack. Excellent. It was really emotional when they had to jump leaving the 20+ ships behind for easy pickins.

YOUNGIN'S!!!!

You thought 'Buck Rogers' was a great space series??? Why in MY day we knew what a great space series was!!! Women all wore mini-skirts and cat-suits with cross your heart bras and stiletto heels!

Now them was space shows! Like 'Lost In Space' and 'Star Trek' and 'Land Of The Giants' and 'Time Tunnel'. Wayyyy before 'Star Wars'!!!

And they were GREEN, dammit!

I loved BG when I was a kid, but the original just doesn't translate well. I really enjoyed the re-make/re-visioning/whatever and hope they can come up with a good series. Sci-Fi owes us a good one to make up for dreck like Tremors and, heaven help us, Scare Tactics.

TheEnforcer 12-10-2003 05:44 PM

Was damn good and I was quite surprised by the ending. I didn't think that was who they would go with.

rebel23 12-13-2003 03:07 PM

it was really cool.. I think they're repeating the whole thing this weekend

DoubleD 12-13-2003 03:13 PM

I was a real fan of the old series...what a great show...one of the best back in the day. When "V" came out got a bit of a fix, but I'm glad Battlestar Galactica its back now...

Ha Buck Rogers? Does anyone remember the old cartoon, Rocket Robin Hood" Thats who should go up against Buck Rogers...

rebel23 12-13-2003 03:19 PM

are they making it into a series?

No word yet, but I'm sure the mini-series was partly a pitch for a series. There was too much time spent on side stories for it not to be. It's getting good feedback, and I bet ratings were decent. Let's hope SciFi can come up with the cash to fund a series.

VirtuMike 12-13-2003 05:26 PM

I couldn't get over this one:

The robots were sweating. I would think people would have noticed that they don't eat and recharge with power. And how could they be so complicated that people couldn't tell them from real humans?

And how could this miracle of robotics happen while they don't have a weapon that could nuke EVERYTHING and they're not using lasers? Our society has robots that are big and square and we have lasers and metal detectors and weapons of mass destruction, but not the cylons and not the colonials.

Also there are only 12 models of cylons. There must be spies and casualties. We're looking at the entire population of humanity not knowing what their enemy looks like. Even we have face recognition but in a war like that we would be at least seen and been lectured how to know a cylon.

And let's not forget the spam for a Cylon Most Wanted deck of cards.
