Blue Cross Blue Shield i had 305 per month under a group plan

phogirl69 12-08-2003 02:22 PM

For those that use BlueCross, which one do you pick ; HMO or PPO? Which one is better??? And where do you go if you want to buy private insurance, not HMO or PPO?

My father is partner in a small company. They've got about 75 employees and I just get on board there. It's free (for me) and I've kept this over insurance provided a few companies I've worked for. Blue Cross is good stuff :thumbsup

I work for a university for my mainstream job. The benefits rock. I was also in the military for 8 years and still have a few benefits there as well.

It never hurts to check with your local chamber of commerce. Many have several group plans for small businesses far less expensive if you went and purchased into a plan on your own.

Chamber membership is inexpensive and from what I have seen most will allow you on board with a small less detailed membership that just gives you access to the insurance plans.

I chose not to go with the insurance offered here at adult.com due to the price.

Instead I researched a few places and found a nice deal at Healthnet. I have two policies.

One for my wife and I, its a decent plan geared more towards big emergency type visits, pregnancy, broken limbs, cancer...the shit that costs amazing amounts of money. But we only get two yearly doctor visits, anything over that is charged more...our perscriptions are pretty cheap and our deductible is moderately high. But the monthly fee is low. We don't go to the doctor for every cold/flu that comes along.

One is for my daughter. It's a great overall plan from big to small we're covered, copays are cheap, perscriptions are cheap, and our deductible is low. If her farts stink too bad we go to the doctor's. The plan is fairly expensive, but there's only one person on it. So it's not too bad.

Overall, between both policies, I pay about $100 per month...after the credit I get from Lensman. Which is totally doable.

The point is do your research and figure out your needs. If you're married with kids...consider two different plans...since not everyone in your family has the same needs.

ARS offers free health insurance to its webmasters. Personally, I have Blue Cross. Doesn't help me too much here in the Philippines though, I have to pay up front and BC will reimburse me (minus co pay).

Netherlands, baby! Socialized Medicine ROCKS!

phogirl69 12-12-2003 07:06 PM

What is better HMo or PPO? And where do you get private insurance? BlueCross is only Hmo & PPo.

maintain my real job. I was ready to jump to strictly porn a few years ago when the money was just so fucking easy...since then my profit has been cut in half, so I'm glad I didn't. I'm just hanging around until the little guy can't survive anymore, or I have enough of a nest egg socked away to make a full time run in this industry.

Damn, I wish we had free health care here in the Philippines.

People may bag on Fidel Castro a lot for being a dictator but at least he gives Cuba free health care. What's the point of being "free" when you can die of dengue any fucking day? Sheesh. Now, before any hater accuses me of being a commie, I'm dedicated to free enterprise, I run my own shop. I just wish, though, that the taxes we pay go to some sort of free socialized medicine for everyone.

Hell, there's still kids going blind here because of lack of Vitamin A. Inexcusable shit, if you ask me. :(

Major Medical Plan through NASE includes emergency room trips and has a prescription discount. About $200 per month for myself and my two boys.

I use BX PPO. I chose it because it had all my doctors on it and the price, while not great, was OK. I take Imitrex for migraines which would cost me about $300 a month, so I end up OK. :)

There are other companies - Fortis, Golden Rule, Kaiser - are a few.

BX also has hospital/surgical plans which are very reasonable. Back when I was broke and they hadn't invented Imitrex yet, that's what I had and it worked out well.

anidifranco 12-12-2003 08:39 PM

I used NASE and when i had to have my head stitched back together in 99, they didnt pay for the emergency room so i dumped them. Now i use Unicare for me and & my son for $220 a month. So far they've paid $50k on my accident in august with no problems.

My father and several other friends of mine have had bad experiences with NASE also. :(

That's one of the things I like about BCBS - it's a national name, fast approvals for the doctors, the doctors and hospitals cannot charge you more than they agreed to charge you through their BX contract (none of that "customary fees" crap you have to cover the difference for) and they pay on time. :thumbsup
