Surprised they didn't try to eat each other. Ihad a breeding pair of redbelly pirhanas... if you left them more than two days without live food, they would go after each other. It got ugly.

Alky 12-06-2003 06:35 PM

sucks to be that mouse. thats a shame though.

Lol Nice.. My female actually did eat some of the male. I figured for SURE he was dead, but amazingly enough it grew back! They were still babies when it happened... about the 4 inches long.. By the time I had to part with them (I moved and couldn't take a 200 gallon tank with me), they were the size of dinner plates and were making me some nice money from the babies :)

Krome 12-06-2003 06:40 PM

Just out of interest is that how you are supposed to feed them?

X37375787 12-06-2003 06:41 PM

damn what a stuggle.

BrettJ 12-06-2003 06:50 PM

pretty cool - didn't look like the mouse made contact with any of them... that's one concern with full growns...

yeh, one piranha is enough for me... he just went 2+ weeks without eating and destroyed the feeders ...

and yeh, they will turn on each other so i don't want to run that risk ... since I end up leaving for extended periods of time.

Ic3m4nZ 12-06-2003 06:50 PM

That's some fucked up shit.

Wow, they threw you in a fish tank?

DWB 12-07-2003 12:18 AM

I ate a few of those (piranha not mice) in Venezuela a few years ago. They are pretty good. Some Amazonians eat them all the time.

We had to fish for them putting little chunks of chicken on our hooks and just seconds after it hit the water you had to yank it out or your bait would be gone.

To add to the story, which doesn't even sound believable in the first place, we were on a 4 day hunt looking for anaconda, sleeping in tents and living off the land... yadda, yadda. It was 100's and 100's of miles of land spotted with little ponds filled with piranha and crocodile, and all over the land were cattle (and bones). Of course this marshy environment made a perfect growing ground for shrooms as cow dung was everywhere. So our guide was eating the shrooms like candy and wading into shallow waters (not the piranha & croc ponds) shuffling across the bottom trying to find one of the largest snakes in the world, and wrestling crocodiles along the way. I was with the South American "Croc Hunter" on shrooms. Truly insane.

Now every time I see one of those fish I want to eat it... they really do taste that good.

aflex 12-07-2003 12:40 AM

well, did you find the anaconda?

cool fish videos!

Hey DirtyWhiteBoy, how do you know if a place was safe to wade in or if it had piranhas or crocs in it?

Lets not get confused here, I was not the one in the water nor was I even thinking about it. It was my mushroom eating guide and I'm guessing he has done that enough to know what is safe and what is not.

I was scared to death just being that close to things that could eat me or strangle me to death... no way would I do it trippin'. I guess it's old hat for him, just another day at the office.

Only a few dead ones. :-( Looking back, I don't know why I wanted to find one in the first place. We were going to catch it, hold it out among the 10 or so of us that were there and take a picture with it. Not a bright idea. It was for the best that we didn't find a live one.
