Problem With Photoshop

I recently tried to install my copy of Adobe Photoshop 5 onto a new PC that I assembeled. Well, the fucking thing is busting my balls. I keep getting this error:

microsoft Runtime Error visual C+ + runtime library

Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop5.0\Photoshop.exe
abnormal program termination

Anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong? The program runs just fine on the other PC (almost identical set up), and I am stumped.

What is your OS?

WIN2000
256Mb RAM

There can be lots of different causes and we might need the all sw & hw details to pin point that but I think in that case:

That can be caused by a defected hardware, most likely RAM or HDD (Or it might be the mainboard). Try to change your RAM stick(s) with one(s) from the working machines and try again.

Another cause might be the small Pagefile (virtual memory) setup, if your are not sure about it check it too and it should be set to at least 256k.

Or that can be caused by some bad dll's which might be replaced by some software installed previously..

and finally have you installed final windows service pack and Photoshop 5.0.2 update?

I hope that helps..

Thanks Arty, I'll start running thru these and see if I can get it working. Appreciate it, man.

Np, anytime.. :)

Btw, I had few typo's but most important one was the page file size which should be 256Mb as you might guessed. :glugglug

Upgrade to a new version :2 cents: Also, try holding down "CTRL+ALT+SHIFT" when Photoshop starts, it returns everything to the default settings...that might help.

Hell, you think that's bad? I can't change hue/saturation or my computer restarts.

I think it's a motherboard issue.
