I've only gone the other way, from Vegas through Colorado (I *think* I hit the 80 in Colorado, going East... it's been awhile), and I wouldn't do it in an SUV... I'd do it in a sports car with good traction. Those roads through the Rockies just *beg* to be driven hard!

And yes, it was a very fun drive in my Mustang GT (OK, it's traction sucks, but it was still fun as hell blazing through the curves going way too fast with incredible scenery around me) :thumbsup

If you like staring at dirt for 10 hours then its okay. Jump on an America West flight for $150, takes an hour and 20 minutes.

Remember to pack a lot of herbal green "medicine." :)

Dugmor 12-05-2003 06:30 PM

I just drove from Montreal............... of course it is fun !

There are some cool webmasters along the way to meet. ........ but once you get to Vegas............. Webmasters don't really go out !

I just drove from Vegas to San Diego !

dugmors trip was huge though i dunno if i could do that

Adult Site Traffic 12-05-2003 07:23 PM

Yes,

You get to stare at the nothingness of hundreds of miles both sides of Grand Junction, and then trek through Utah, the most receptive state in the US to outsiders and porn mongers.

Option # 2 lets you choose the beautiful scenery of southern Colorado and all of New Mexico. It does not get any more beautiful than the drive between the springs and Winslow. That is, if you like clothes pinned onto every clothes line for hundreds of miles, gas stations where you need to speak a mix of Mexican and Navajo to get service, and potato chips as your only source of food.

3rd, you can always cut across and go thru 4 corners. Invite us to your native american wedding ceremony :)

LOL, bring your GT and your spare airbag and a can-o-heat :)

I just crossed the Gore, Snowy and NeverSummers ranges twice this week with fresh studded tires on my AWD.

BTW, it's December ..

I enjoyed the drive from nevada to Colorado...did it a couple of times.

The deserts of Utah are much different than those of Arizona, and Nevada...much more beautiful..and then the canyons or gorge whatever it is you drive through in Colorado was IMO simply amazing...this was of course over 10 years ago and I know they built a big highway through there so it call could have changed.

Sly_RJ 12-05-2003 09:44 PM

Denver to Las Vegas is the longest most boring trek I've ever been on. Will NEVER do it again. Western Colorado sucks, Utah sucks, and Nevada sucks.

Fly!

C_U_Next_Tuesday 12-05-2003 10:48 PM

I love road trips and am driving from WA to Las vegas this year...

getting harder to bring my smoke on the plane and I can bring my snowboard along too...whoo hoo!!

:thumbsup

Elli 12-05-2003 10:53 PM

It's beautiful in the summer, but I've never attempted it in the winter. Methinks you might want chains. :)

Babaganoosh 12-05-2003 10:55 PM

Sounds like a good time as long as you aren't driving it alone. Road tripping with a friend or two makes the trip a lot more fun.

JSA Matt 12-05-2003 10:55 PM

I drove from Florida to San Diego and would do it again is a second. Texas is the only part that sucks. :glugglug

How long did that take?

I'm driving from vegas to San Diego in January to go tuna fishing.

Why 12-06-2003 12:44 AM

iv driven from washington to S. Cali and back twice. driven to michigan from washington state. and iv driven between washington and texas 3.5 round trips so far this year. i lovet o drive.

YT if you can take one of the cars that can haul some ass across the flat states. they get boring sometimes. otherwise take the jeep if the weather wont let you. and if your gonna take the buds, dont smoke while driving, i know too many fellas been popped for DWI while smoking, or just after, shit stinks up your ride for hours. i always pull off and puff.

BVF 12-06-2003 12:50 AM

driving long distance sucks ass no matter where you drive. But the benefit is that you have a car once you get there.

I'd take the jeep if I were you

shermo 12-06-2003 01:36 AM

It's about as fun as a visit to the proctologist. Fly down here. It'd cost the same price that it would to fill your gas tank a few times, and it's less cramped! :2 cents:

If you're talking about the Grand Junction area yeah that's kinda lame...but that trek from there to Denver IMO is well worth it.

I've driven it about 3 times and have enjoyed it every time.

Now you wanna talk about boring...drive through fucking Texas...ugh!.

Growing up there going on trips always sucked...you could drive 10 hours and still not be out of the state.

How can it only be 4-5 hours?

Depending upon traffic from here to LA takes about 4-5 hours...San Diego is another 2-3 hours from there * or course depending upon traffic*

Shit if you guys have some secret route that can get me to San Diego in that amount of time hook a brotha up ;)

eroswebmaster 12-06-2003 06:05 AM

Okay I call bullshit on mapquest...LOL

According to Mapquest it's approx 4 hours from here *Vegas* to Los Angeles.

Back in the day it used to take me about that so yes I can believe that.

Okay they then claim it's 4 hours and 59 minutes from here to San Diego while taking you through Los Angeles...this is where the bullshit comes in ;)

Mapquest calculates the travel time from Los Angeles to San Diego to be 1 hour 55 minutes...which I've driven many times and is about right unless there is bad traffic.

So add that time up...Vegas to LA 4 hours plus 1 hour 55 minutes from LA to San Dieog...that's pretty much 6 hours...which sounds about right...but we all know SoCal traffic that could easily turn into an 8 hour drive. :)

Nyght 12-06-2003 10:06 AM

The best part of road tripping to Vegas from Colorado is the leaving Colorado part! :thumbsup

Like I said, depending on traffic.

I've made the Vegas trip to and from San Diego several times. I left Vegas one time at midnight and was in bed in San Diego by 4AM. Only one time has the drive taken more than 5 hours and that was a fight weekend. I drive fast though :)

Depends on where the starting point is at in LA. You only drive along the outside of LA when taking I-15..

Indeed it is.

QUICKIE 12-06-2003 11:54 AM

You know i've drivin from Minneapolis to San Diego about 4 times the last year and to tell you the truth when your use to the flat boring plains of the midwest then colorado utah and california? forget it... that is the most beautifull thing to see in th world ...!! I would of enjoyed it more if my fucking A/C was working..

Good luck on your trip....
and make sure you stop at the Ranch Brothell outside vegas... They love visitors.. hehe

ytcracker 12-06-2003 12:15 PM

ive done chicago three times and back iowa one and back and wyoming and utah a bunch of times.

i don't think that anything is more boring than kansas and nebraska. out to grand junction isnt too terribly bad, but it seems going eastward from here is terrible.

Hey, if going thru Grand Junction, be sure to stop at Cheers.

Personally, I like long road trips. 150,000+ miles on my bike
LA - Daytona Beach
LA - Sturgis, SD
LA to Oregon
LA to deep Baja

It's all good
