2yo broke monitor with 1yr warranty
Anyone here know how to get around an expired 1 year warranty?
My monitor won't turn on (no power to picture tube), and I don't think I should have to pay to have it fixed since this is the SECOND Sony Trinitron monitor that has gone out at the 2 year mark. Plus they were $500 each, and $1000+ for a grand total of 4 years service is UNACCEPTABLE. I certainly can't afford another new one, or even the repair I'm sure. I never regestered it, so they don't know when I bought it. What if I just tell them I got it 6 months ago? I could scan the receipt and change the date if I have to, and say I lost the original. |
Wonder where ALLL that info goes that comes from the retailer scanning that lil UPC code? ;-) The manufacturer knows when that monitor was sold. Try to go at them with a lie and you won't get a thing.
Look in to having it repaired first along with calling the manufacturer and talking to a supervisor in their Customer Service. You might be surprised how they treat you if you lavish praise on and at the same time plug the dismay over the failures. You could very well end up with a new monitor. Also, microcenter has refurb'd 17's on sale this week-month... 49.99 after a $40 rebate. ;-) |
best buy was selling kds 17's for $50 the other day. i thought about picking a couple up, just to flip lol.
i used to have one, and for the price that's a pretty good deal. with all my electronic shit i usually send it to my dad. he minored in electronics in college, he fixes all that shit. and is very good at it. but you might check around on some of that stuff. a lot of places won't even fix monitors these days. i had some stereo work done to a 30-year-old reciever a while back though that was a lot less than i thought it would be, i just shopped around a bit. |
wow sucks

I have the all-time record for things breaking within a week of the waranty ruunning out :)

UPC just contains price and description. serial number is unique

Lying to save yourself $500? Not worth it man. Once you start going down that road you'll do it more and more........
Do a couple of galleries and go buy yourself a new monitor! |

I would just say call expain the situation and if the first person u speak to says they cant help u move up the ladder till u get to the person that will fix it and make sure along the way to get there names and employee numbers and eventually u will get someone that will replace it just make a big deal about it. They are a billion dollar company i am sure they can send u out a new monitor or at least fix it.

...until its coupled with the store sales records (that most manufacturers have access to for this very purpose as well as rebating etc etc) and alot of the stores here are now scanning two codes... guess what that second one holds? Yep. lol Identifiers for that unique item. SN, Mod# etc. That will be on ALL things pretty soon that have a reuse value. |
