Pay For Tap Water In USA?

A friend told me that in some restaurants you have to PAY for TAP water in restaurants if you ask for a glass of water.

Is this true ANYWHERE in the USA?

I don't believe her she is usually full of shit.

Haven't had that happen in restaurants. But a few fast food places, yeh.

If its a plastic cup then they normaly just charge for that and not for the water itself

This maybe a sign of the future. Water is getting low in suply.

HeadPimp 12-03-2003 07:15 PM

Probably only in the places where people come to just hang out and not buy anything else... (bums & kids)

I've been to one or two restaurants that charge for water but it's very rare, even here in the desert.

What I have seen in the last few years is a lot of nightclubs charging for ICE. Not a little, either, I'm talking $3-$4 if you want your drink on the rocks. There was big scandal about a couple of fancy clubs in the Flats (Cleveland) pulling that shit.

never had to pay for it at a retaraunt but i did get a $2400 water bill 2 months ago for my house...pretty lame..no one can tell me why but i had to pay it

These places want you to buy soda and other beverages, that's where they make a good chunk of their profit, if not all of it. Soda is incredibly cheap compared to what you and I pay for it. When I checked into it, about 5 years ago, Coke was a penny an ounce. It's probably more now, but still, the mark-up is incredible.

It's common during water shortages... mostly to get you to NOT want the glass full that usually gets thrown out. And they have some reallllly nasty fines if they catch you watering your yard or anything too.

most of the time we dont have to pay for it. but if we did it would be worth it. our water is so clean compared to the water in europe.

BrettJ 12-03-2003 09:41 PM

four seasons georgian room ... they charge for "water service" ...

even if you didn't get bottled water. so yup, some places do it

your friend sounds like she needs to get her shit pushed in.

Chichio 12-03-2003 09:49 PM

downloadin' Nickleback on my PC, what kinda bullshit is that?

:)

Lonny 12-03-2003 09:50 PM

some of the fast food places around here charge up to .15 cents for a small cup of water. So it's not unheard of.

Hell, no.

Another cool thing about the US, you don't pay for Ice cubes like in Europe.

This is like a European visiting San Diego and saying "most Americans are Mexican immigrants"...

And where exactly in Europe would that be? I've never paid for ice cubes in England, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Greece or Turkey

hottoddy 12-03-2003 10:24 PM

I have seen them charge Canadians for water.

XxXotic 12-03-2003 10:38 PM

In ten years, you'll recall this blissfully ignorant statement.

Here's an idea. Flush your toilet twenty times today. Just so you can baffle your grandkids.
