HOMEOWNERS: Do you have Central-Vac?

Im looking into getting Central-Vac for the new home this week.

We have it all pre-wired as I paid for it when we were having the house bulit over the summer..

Now im looking into getting the system installed.
About 1500.00 for the one I want.

Is it worth it??

Anyone here have that shit?

xanx 12-02-2003 03:12 PM

the one i had was real weak but it came with the house so I really don't know much about it.

kmanrox 12-02-2003 03:16 PM

yes its worth it... especially if your wife has to do the cleaning... even if you have a maid and a big house its worth it... in florida my 4000sq house had it, and when you are cleaning that many carpets, it looked like a lifesaver...

yeah, it seems there are 3 or so different levels.

Im getting the morepowerful one... (so they say) but i dont want to fork over 1500.00 bucks on something a 300.00 vaccum can do from Sears.

Dude..
My wife doesnt clean...

If she did, I would buy a 100.00 vaccum and let her deal with it..

I do the fucking cleaning... Why do you think Im willing to fork over 1500.00???

Sucks to work out of the home. You get stuck with cleaning...

But I did get a landscape company to do my yardwork for me!!

Maybe when we have a baby Ill get a house keeper as well. All my frineds have a house keeper, but never growing up around that shit it just seems strange having some person in the home cleaning as I sit here in my office naked posting on GFY.

Head 12-02-2003 03:21 PM

It's alright. I have it and my girlfriend has it; hers is better.

SleazyDream 12-02-2003 03:22 PM

it looked like it sucked pretty damn good actually, and it was an older model... the house was 15 years old and it was built into the original house...

boneprone 12-02-2003 03:26 PM

ok making the call...

I think im gunna get it.

shit........

boneprone 12-02-2003 03:27 PM

1500.00 for a fucking vacum..

Just seems silly..

MissEve 12-02-2003 03:27 PM

bone...... I saw an episode of MTV Cribs with some BMX guy....Dave Mirra? anyway, in the kitchen there was a little slot with a lever you could push with your foot that was attached to the central vac so you could just sweep those annoying kitchen crumbs over to the slot and it would suck them up!

atomic2500 12-02-2003 03:28 PM

i don't have any carpet in my house, all tile
but maybe i should put one in just for the hell of it

What's a Kirby??

Is that what you call the little black guy who comes to the house to clean?

boneprone 12-02-2003 03:31 PM

Oh Nevermind...

Im thinking of Kirby Puckett..

bopha 12-02-2003 03:40 PM

My folks had one of those. I hope the new ones have better suction than the 70's ones. My parents used to really complain when the vac wouldn't work, I guess fixing it was expensive.

They ended up with a dirt devil from Target.

We don't have a maid, but we have a lawn person. Totally worth it.

Good luck with your new house.

yep... get a big one, at least 16 gallon, wet/dry vac, 2 way so you can use it as a blower too. I use my shop vac for everything. But then I only have carpet in the living room. The rest of the house is done in heavy mexican tile.

Gemini 12-02-2003 03:46 PM

Compare the HP and CFM on each model they have and divide the costs... see if its going to screw you to get the largest they have. Then call around and see what other companies have too. They can vary more than you think. ;-)

Also see if they have a model HOUSE to see it in... not in their showrooms... (You might want to get some info on installation of that models lines and keep an eye on the installer... they take shortcuts sometimes which will mess up the performance.

And $1500?? Pshaw... they were selling $1500 PUSH sweepers in the 70's. lol They even came with a spray gun for painting cars. You name it and those things had an attachment. You guys missed an awful lot when the door to door salesmen went out. ;-)P

boneprone 12-02-2003 03:47 PM

IVe seen those!!
They are Orange arent they!!

When I used to paint houses in Highschool Summers we had one.

Those things are cool!!!

But not what im looking for really... But yeah those bithces can suck hard cock!!!

They are bulky and big!! Good for the garage..
But if I get this central vac I wont need a garage vaccum..

The door to door salesman job needs to come back!!

Now all we have are door to door salesmen trying to sell magazines, and preach the word of the Lord.

She sucks hard, and she blows!!!

boneprone 12-02-2003 03:52 PM

Put a wig on her and she's perfect!

Eric 12-02-2003 03:52 PM

I have it pre wired too. But a regular VAC is just as good.

indeed.... that thing sucks up big rocks, bolts, small animals, water, pretty much anything in it's path.

anidifranco 12-02-2003 03:53 PM

the good shopvac is the silver one

Gemini 12-02-2003 03:56 PM

Also look into the cleanouts if the thing is a serial pipe unit... Or one clog and you are outta business until roto rooter comes and charges you thru the nose for messing with auguring a plastic pipe out. lol

I have it, but the help cleans the house, so I am not sure if it was worth putting in the house or not.

If the $1500 is going to put a dent in your wallet, I would have the maid lug the vacuum around.

Pete 12-02-2003 04:02 PM

I have central vac but dont use it as much as the regular vac.

anidifranco 12-02-2003 04:08 PM

Personally, this is how I see this issue...You only need this if you have a multi-level house. In that case, invest in a good HEPA vacuum for each level of your house to save your back and knees. Otherwise, save about $1200 and get an awesome $300ish vacuum.
Or better yet, buy the roomba. I have my doubts about this though.

freeadultcontent 12-02-2003 04:18 PM

No central vacuum unit. Just a quality bagless vacuum.

The thought of dragging hoses around the house seems kinda odd, even if you can just plug them into a wall. Not to mention if the damn thing fucks up, what kind of repair are you looking at? What happens when your 2nd floor is clogged or something?

Now the little robot vacuums look fun, but that is something else all together.

Hey bone, did you opt for the tankless hot water heater? Now that is a great feature.

i have one that was here before i bought the place but we have never even used it...the normal vac works like a charm

evildick 12-02-2003 04:46 PM

What's suppose to be the benefit of a central vac? you've still got to lug the head unit around to each room right? You just plug it into the wall. Maybe it's a little lighter, that's all.

The part that does the cleaning is the rotating head unit on the vacuum. That is the part that makes the most difference. You can spend all the money you want on a central vac and if it doesn't have a good sweeper attachment then it is not going to be worth shit.

Just get a decent 12 amp vacuum and save yourself the money.

:2 cents:

BillyHoe 12-02-2003 05:20 PM

It's not worth it unless you plan on doing the cleaning...lol The hose is long and fairly heavy. I just bought a new house this week, and was gonna get it install and I've been hearing nightmare stories about them.
They mark up your walls, and the hose always gets in the way, and unlike a vacum you either have to always leave the hose out, or trek it up and down stairs to put it away. Spend the money on a light weight high end badless vacum. I'm in the middle of looking for a good one myself. I'll let you know what I find.

Just my :2 cents:

bp,

central vac is good... if you have hardwood floors in say, the kitchen, make sure you get an outlet you can sweep the crap from the kitchen floor into :)

i dont have it but i wish i did :(

BradShaw 12-02-2003 07:25 PM

Why are you worried about vacuuming? Isn't that the maids job?
