What kind of home security do you have?

I'm about to move in my house and need to get some type of home security. What kind do you guys have? I want a dog but I'm allergic. Is there any kind of dogs that people arent really allergic to? What else is good? I'm asking because while my house was vacant someone stole the storm door, so I want to be prepared in case someone decides to break in. I dont want to own a gun either.

RedShoe 12-01-2003 07:10 PM

Most towns have an alarm company that is affiliated with one of the larger alarm companies. Talk to them. No one can tell you what to get without seeing the house and layout. You can get hooked up to them pretty reasonably for a 24-7 auto callup. Even get lease or pay to own deals with most of them.

Just make sure that you put your phone lines in to a piece of armored conduit so they can't cut your lines. :winkwink:

Gruntled 12-01-2003 07:25 PM

First, find someone with a pit bull or rottweiler that you can hang around. they're both short-haired breeds. Don't start the outta-control crap, it's all in the training.

Second, check out regular security systems. Almost all of them have an option now for video security, and you can log in from work and see video captures at your house.

Third, If you decide to get a gun, train with it, clean it, and practice. just buying one and having it around won't do shit for you.

Just seeing that would make me run way for sure!

Personally, I've got the full combination:

Fully monitored system with cams covering the living area and front/back yard, .45 and backup .380, and two Rottweilers. Not that there's really anything in there anyone would want... :winkwink:

Get a Chihuahua. They make good *watch* dogs (notice I did not say guard dogs). They also eat very little, keep you warm at night and don't have enough hair on them to cause a shedding problem.

If that doesn't appeal to you, try an alarm system.

If you can deal with a big dominant breed,
and can afford it, you may want a Dogo.

Supposedly they don't bother peoples allergies as much as many other breeds. But these are very serious dogs, probably not well suited for an inexperienced owner. They generally won't tolerate being jerked around.

9mm with 30 hollowpoints. All the security I need.

austinth 12-01-2003 08:26 PM

One Dalmation Dog that doesn't like strangers, one baseball bat, slightly used, and some other goodies that I can't mention.

My apartment door is old, thin, and rickety, and is protected with one small deadbolt. There is a nice and easy drain pipe that goes up to my 3rd story balcony, to which I usually leave my sliding door open.

BRING IT ON BIATCHS!

he's a shelter rescue (lots of great dogs there!!),
someone just dumped a litter of puppys with no info;
so we don't really know what breed/s went into him.

beemk 12-01-2003 09:39 PM

what other types of dogs are good that dont really affect people with allergies?

The Truth Hurts 12-01-2003 09:41 PM

Ya, a dogo is a good protection/hunting dog. If you can handle a bigger dog, get a Fila Brasileo. A robber better be a sharp shooter (aiming for the head) to mess with a Fila.

Looks like a pitt-shepard mix or a rott-shepard mix. A nice looking dog nonetheless.

Babaganoosh 12-01-2003 09:47 PM

Sig Sauer P229 by my bed, a Mossberg 12 gauge under the bed, & a bitchy female roommate in the next room. Anyone comes across her before I get to them they'll be begging me to shoot them & put them out of their misery.

^R3K^ 12-01-2003 09:49 PM

rottweiler, shotgun, PMS'ing wife.. no man dare...

Babagirls 12-01-2003 09:57 PM

fang 12-01-2003 10:34 PM

I have cams that scan my property from the outside and record to a harddrive...a germen shepherd that lives in the yard and a 38 cal. smith and a 44 cal. semi auto... and I'm a little touched in the head so it all works pretty well :)

beemk 12-01-2003 11:12 PM

how much does a good security system cost?

smack 12-01-2003 11:26 PM

9mm smith and wesson ACP. :thumbsup

i pray for the day someone breaks into my house. lol

CamChicks 12-02-2003 12:26 AM

If someone broke into our house, he'd find himself live on the internet, :1orglaugh
with a lot of people watching him and all his actions being archived onto an off-site server.

I got http://www.adt.com/ for my mom's house
she says she sleeps much better having it. She's allergic to dogs too.

they get you though, 3 year contract.
it's around $30 month to put alarms on 3 doors, 2 windows and a movement sensor for a large room and it cost a lot to get it all installed (under a grand)

if you call them tonight they can send a sales rep over tomorrow to give you a price quote.

Nima 12-02-2003 12:36 AM

a gun, dog and a few bats

beemk 12-02-2003 12:37 AM
