I just did a search for the keywords black sex on google and the first page didn't have a single porn site listed. What kinda shenanigans are they up to?

NoCarrier 12-01-2003 05:43 PM

It doesn't take a master in physics to realise that google is going public soon. And that the only way to make more profit, is with their adwords program or adsense. There is a filter right now that is filtering and/or blocking adult terms and sites. You either find a solution to break it or advertise your sites using adwords and buy google shares when it's available.

This is just the beginning. :glugglug

Almost right but not quite. It's filtering out the more commercial and higher adword terms. Mainstream e-commerce sites have been hit even harder in many cases than porn sites. If you're christmas shopping online either give google a miss or try www.scroogle.org . The change in google is a bad hack job and you can use an exploit to still return the results without the new filter applied. For those who lost places try scroogle and weep. That's where you would have been :(

Wrong. Whatever it is, it is not filtering adult terms specifically..

The different results you people are getting are coming from different DCs, being shuffled around.

Yeah Google wants you buying more adwords, but they still seem to be loving the spammers:

#1 and #2 for black sex are cloaked spam listings.

googles gone gonzo :glugglug

Kingfish 12-02-2003 12:29 AM

Google has been doing this for years. They just recently expanded it to new terms. Any term that has a possible dual meaning or a noncommercial use google will always make it almost impossible to get the commercial stuff in. They don?t do this with everything it all depends on how popular the term is. The more popular the term the more likely this is to happen. I use to target the term ?free DVDs? in google For a couple of months I always had a top 3 ranking. Well then google got the idea that people looking for free DVDs were really looking for ?region free DVDs? . They have simply decided that people looking for ?sex? are looking for safe sex tips, sex education, and so on. It also benefits them as it pushes the commercial use of the terms to the ad words.

xxxjay 12-05-2003 10:54 AM

I've been noticing for a while that google tries to push the non adult stuff up ahead of adult, if it could be both.

It makes sense really.

Thousands of companies got rousted on this update. Shouldn't be a problem, people will adjust their techniques and get up there again.

Tipsy 12-05-2003 01:00 PM

Have to love 'em. I recently had 'mature sex' and 'older women sex' rejected from adwords as not being 'adult' terms. However 'older women' was fine according to the same reviewer. Bless their little cotton socks.

Oh - and as has been said the last update fucked all the big commercial terms both porn and non-porn. :D
