Anyone from Vegas??

I'm thinking about moving and Vegas sounds good. If you live there can you tell me a few things.

1) good areas to live in. I'm looking to rent a house in Henderson for a year before I buy. What areas would you suggest or stay away from.

2) How is the job market. My wife is looking to pick-up a job to keep her busy.

3) if you moved out there do you like it?

4) any other things I should know.

Thanks for the help, I'll buy you all a drink "if" i move you there.

1) Henderson or Summerlin
2) Job market is good...Vegas has one of the largest growing job markets
3) I've been here a year and am ready to leave. It loses its flair after awhile
4) TRAFFIC SUCKS!! Take every bad driver and put them into one city, that's Vegas.

The weather is nice, windy a lot, but nice. Everything is open 24/7 and you are in a good central location, 4 hour drive or flight to pretty much anywhere. Anyway, that's my :2 cents:

1) If you already know about Henderson I'm not sure what information you need on "areas". Pretty much everywhere I've been in Henderson (I moved here a few months ago) ranges from OK to really nice. Las Vegas is not a pretty city and no matter where you move you aren't going to be far from construction, dirt lots and brick walls with tagging on them. If you aren't aware, there is an area called Summerlin that is pretty nice and you may want to look for housing there, as well.

2) If your wife has waitressing skills, she's golden. I'd say there are approximately sixty-two billion waitressing jobs in the greater Las Vegas area. There are also plenty of stores if she's looking to get into retail. You didn't say what she wants to do so I can't be much more specific.

3) I like it here a lot. This is by far the most entertaining place I have ever lived. I miss the friends I left behind when I moved but I don't regret coming here. There are a million things to do here at any time of the day or night and as long as you have a few bucks in your pocket you will never be bored. Las Vegas is an exciting and interesting place to live. Living in Henderson just outside the city is perfect as far as I am concerned; easy access to everything and no traffic or noise problems right near my home.

4) Insurance rates are a little high.

Edit: RE: kristin's post. Traffic is not bad at all in the area I live in. As long as you stay away from the strip traffic is not a big deal. What does suck is the design and layout of the streets. They were not planned and built in a uniform manner so a lot of lanes don't line up correctly and for some reason the right lane is always disappearing.

How far is Summerlin from the strip? (traffic included)

20-30 minutes, it all depends on how many accidents there are that day. When there is an accident or a cop has someone pulled over, traffic comes to a dead halt.

Highways suck ass here.

It takes me 15-20 minutes just to get to a highway.

What I hate most about this town is just how ugly it is.

Sure there are some cool things to do but damn I would like some beauty once in awhile :(

I'm so tired of looking at dirt.

Where did all you move from and do you like it more there? I'm going to be moving from Boston area.
