Anyone into Teeth Grinding?

haha I say it like it is a sport, but my dentist just told me I do it during I sleep and if I keep going it, I will be in trouble when I'am older..

Anyone else do this? Supposenly it's pretty common.

I guess I can get some custom mouthguard made! I'am sure I will feel pretty cool or just buy it and never use it!

Both of my son's do it. I'll tell ya, it's the most cringing feeling being on side of one of them when they're sleeping and grinding, especially my 5 year old, ugghhh... just thinking about it makes me cringe.

Yeah, they were told to use mouth guards also, but it's not easy to get them to wear them, ha ha ha.

I do it occasionaly. I don't notice it cause I'm sleeping but I've been told lol. My dentist hasen't said anything about it so I'm assuming it's not too bad..?

My husband does it and it drives me insane...it will wake me up at night sometimes....usually worse when he's stressed.

BlackCrayon 11-29-2003 08:39 PM

sometimes, when im nervous. i hope i don't do it during my sleep.

A few years ago my dentist made me a custom mouth guard because I guess i was grinding them in my sleep. I wore it about a month and then I stopped grinding. My dentist says I started again and I need to wear it. Trouble is I threw the darn thing out so now I have to have another one made.

Had to wear a gimp guard and it really saved my teeth and me from getting major TMJ. Took awhile to get used to it. Worth it though. Havent ground my teeth in over 8 years.

I don't grind but I "play the drums" with my teeth. Hard to explain. Been doing it for years (as I play the drums).

I guess I was doing it a couple of years ago. I started getting the elbow in the middle of the night and some grumbling so it must have been fairly nasty sounding. I had the dentist look on my next checkup and he didn't find any problems. But he said most people do it now and again for whatever reason. He checked closely the next couple of times in and said it must have stopped or their would be signs of it as well as bruises on my ribs. :helpme

I grind my teeth pretty badly. I have ground them down to the dentyne. You can't even see my canines anymore either because they are ground down. I wore my mouth guard for a while but the mouth guard caused even worse TMJ. It caused me to clench down even harder and grind harder. Had holes in my mouth guard. Now I just take some medication to relax me and I don't grind anymore or have TMJ problems. It also solved my migraines.

I grind my teeth every night

Now my jaw pops when I yawn sometimes.

I had a mouth guard..

It caused me to bite down harder.

In turn making my TMJ worse ... so I quit using it

now I just try not to sleep as much :)

If you have headaches or neck aches, get it and use it. You won't regret it.

If you grind your teeth too much, your bite will be off and you will end up with worse problems.

mastamindz 11-30-2003 01:25 AM

I grind my teeth like mad. My girlfriend kicks me when I start to grind

Mutt 11-30-2003 01:33 AM

don't listen to dentists, they have less credibility than Baghdad Bob. they'll convince you that grinding your teeth causes impotence and bowel cancer - just so they can sell you a hunk of plastic that costs them a buck and a half for $300.

Yeah i grind and got a biteguard from my dentist. Damn thing costs $600 then 2 weeks after i got it i see one in the local super wallmart that is like a sports mouthguard you out in hot water then mold it to you teeth for $20.

So anyways i am saying go to your local super walmart or similar store (or try finding one online) and buy one for $20 insted of wasting $$$ getting one from your dentist.

:2 cents:

I HAD tmj by the time it was diagnosed and misdiagonsed.

I finally found this dentist, who made me wear braces for two years and a custom mouth guard. No more pain. No more grinding.
