Dude...I'm Gettin A Dell
OK since my poll I ran I decided to go ahead and get the Dell Notebook. I didn't need anything outrageous so I just ordered the Inspiron 1100 which is $849.00 - $250.00 mailin rebate = $599.00 with free shipping.
Not a bad deal, it's got: Intel Celeron 2.3Ghz 256MB DDR Ram 20GB Ultra ATA HDD :thumbsup |
Just ordered the same setup a few mins ago. I ordered the cd burner and built in wireless ethernet card with it. Its not for me though :thumbsup
|
I think thats the same deal I saw on GotApex.com yesterday.. it might have been $549 though.. Looked like a good deal :thumbsup

I have used many celerons and so have some friends of mine, they have never once had a compatibility problem with other hardware or software and a celeron is the same as a pentium just a slower class :thumbsup |

Dunno what you guys are smoking, celerons are fine. Yes, they have less on board cache and are a little slower, but they don't have compatibility issues with anything a 'full' chip does.
I have a 1.8ghz laptop with 512mb ram and I constantly swap out winxp and linux on it and I've never had an issue, great little laptop. |

CPU: Intel Celeron 1.7GHz 400F 128K Hard Drive: 40GB 7200RPM ATA133 Memory: 256MB DDR333 Video Card: Integrated 3D Graphics Starting from: $399.00 . |
Whats the best place to find good prices on this stuff?
|
Bad move, any modern Windows OS really needs 512 MB RAM atleast, and the most you'll be doing with that Celeron is surfing the web + checking email, one at a time :)

Anything from dell is good

get a Centrino
Batteries last much longer & super silent & same power as P4 & wireless built in i.e. IBM Thinkpad R40 w/ centrino are cheap now. 6.1 hr battery life, 15" tft |
I'll take another mac please, but that's pretty damn cheap. Although you can pick up a refurbished iBook for about $650 now.

Should have built it yourself, could have gotten a way better deal.
|
Your mail-in rebate won't come. Also, Dell tech support is absolutely ridiculous, so don't get your hopes up too high with your order.
|
I misread the thread. I thought he said Dude... I'm Getting a Doll. Real Doll makes another sale! :1orglaugh :thumbsup
|
I ordered one from Dell last Saturday night at about midnight. The unit wasn't supposed to ship until this coming Monday. It has already shown up along with the free printer and my mail in rebate certificate on Wednesday afternoon.
So far Dell has impressed the hell out of me. |
