Registering country specific domains, please help!

When you try to register certain country specific domain extensions it says you must have a valid address from that country. How do you people do it? :helpme

Certain registrars will take care of it for you for some countries.

I think every country has different rules, some are more slack than others.

Man this sucks. I went through a different registry and they have confirmed the purchase etc. but the domain still shows up as available right now. Does anyone know if all registries work like ours or what's up?

What do you mean by ours? .us?

It might take 24 hours to show as registered. But every country has it's own rules and different systems.

Sorry, "ours" is US registries in sleepy mode.

I was just wondering if some countires registration systems update slower than the US. When you register a US domain it is automatically removed as an available domain. This is not the case here.

What country domain are you trying to register?

Japan. I did just get confirmation that it takes 12 to 24 hours for it to update in the Japanese registry system and that if anyone tries to register the domain it will eventually be denied.

Woohoo!

I seem to remember someone posting here before that it is hard to register a japan domain. Like you had to have a japanese address or something.

And I think some countries have to approve the name of the domain first. So they have some guy who goes through all the registration requests and can deny certain domain names. I think this is especially true of China.

Even if this name had to go through an approval process it's not a porn term or anything so I don't see a problem with it. I was told it was set up and DNS would resolve in 24 to 48 hours.

We'll see soon.

To register a norwegian domain (.no) you need a norwegian biz, and you have to apply to get what you want. A reply will be given within 3 days. So pretty tricky up here atleast... :(

This is the organization that handles .jp domains:

Looks like you need to have a postal address in Japan, but I suppose you could fake that if you wanted to. I don't know how successful that would be though, they might check up on it.
