I'm working with a SONY VAIO PCG-GRZ615G

And it works great for me :thumbsup

BukkakeBrown 11-26-2003 03:54 PM

Sony Vaio SuperSlim pro treats me right.

Biggest problems with laptops are the hard drives, they put this these piece of shit 4200 RPM drives. If you're spending the cash get a Sony or Dell and upgrade to a bad ass 7200 RPM IBM drive.

avion 11-26-2003 04:07 PM

Been with Vaios for the last few years and can tell you one thing:
Sony is the way to go!

SoundMan 11-26-2003 04:30 PM

I use all VIAO products, the best thing i like is the memory stick, easy to swap files.

which lappy has a really good battery life? i want something to last long like guido

I've got an Acer Aspire 1604LC: amazing machine, but cost a little more.

If you want to use it on shoots and if there might be some extreme weather out there TAKE a ACER.
We were on the shoot for the Belgian version of Survivor in Malaysia and all the laptops (Dell, Compaq, IMac, ...) crashed or slowed down enormiously, except the ACERs.

The Dells were the worst, one crashed after 15 minutes.

I got an Enpower from there and upgraded it a little bit, it's a bad ass laptop and it was $1700. Not bad...40GB hard drive, 256 memory, nice little workstation. :)

i recently bought new ibooks for two of my employees. working out beautifully :glugglug

for $ 1500

HEARTBREAKER 11-26-2003 06:19 PM

Isn't Acer a cheaper brand? At least they are here in USA. I don't mind cheap I just want somethign that won't break down in 2 months :thumbsup

BrentD 11-26-2003 06:52 PM

Call me cheap but what I am looking for is something with the following features for under $1000.00:

1.2Ghz or higher (mac 800Mhz or higher)
256MB ddr or higher
32mb video or higher (not shared)
20GB hdd or higher
cd/cd-r/cd-rw/dvd/dvd-r
firewire
usb 2.0
floppy (?)
s-video out (tv out)
12.1 or better lcd

The dvd writer is a must and I would prefer a mac due to using iDVD and iMovie alot for web clips as well as Final Cut Express.

I have a Mac G4 400Mhz, 512mb ram, 10gb/30gb hdd w/ external 10GB VST external drive ($699 back in 1999 for this fucking firewire drive), cd/dvd with a 17" studio display monitor.

I love this computer but I can't carry it on shoots:)

I got a VPR Matrix for about $1,000 on clearance at Best Buy a couple of weeks ago. I LOVE it. The widescreen rocks.

But what I really want is a Toshiba Sattelite. It's just out of my price range right now. :(

SleazyDream 11-26-2003 10:36 PM

Yeah, I have the same one. Toshiba Satellite P20.. It's SICK. Biggest fuckin laptop I've ever seen, so if you need something small, it might not be for you.

Joshua 11-26-2003 10:54 PM

Go with the Dell!

Probono 11-26-2003 10:56 PM

If yu have the money and your applications will run on it buy the Mac, don't forget the extra cost for the three year warranty. If not do the Dell.

Zprogramz 11-27-2003 12:22 AM

I have a Dell and a Powerbook.

The Powerbook with OSX smokes the Dell with XP.

Z

Pornwolf 11-27-2003 12:58 AM

For that price I would go with the Apple. It's a better value and perfect for what you are doing.

Validus 11-27-2003 01:02 AM

I would have to recommend Dell. I had one once, and it was fantastic. Really nice machine, never had problems with it and performed top-notch.

A mac maybe nice for graphics and video edition, but I think would also be very restricting.

fsfaz 11-27-2003 03:05 AM

I've been an avid Toshiba fan for quite some time. From what I understand, they actually make Laptop for some of the big boys as well.

Pornwolf 11-27-2003 03:06 AM

If Toshiba's not a big boy then who is?
